For 1080p at 60 frames per second, YouTube recommends a video bitrate of 12 Mbps with AV1 or H.265/HEVC, or 17 Mbps with H.264. As a practical upload-capacity target, allow about 14.4 Mbps or 20.4 Mbps, respectively, using YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom. These are encoder recommendations—not guarantees that a particular Indian broadband connection can sustain a stable stream. Test upload at the streaming location and intended hours before committing to 24/7 operation.
There is a separate concern for a replay channel: YouTube warns that a live stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured as an archive. If viewers need a replay, end and restart sessions before 12 hours and keep a local recording as backup.
Recommended YouTube Live bitrate by resolution, frame rate, and codec
YouTube’s official encoder table sets different recommended bitrates by codec, resolution, and frame rate. The figures below are video bitrates; they are not India-specific broadband measurements or guarantees of picture quality for every game. [YouTube Help: encoder settings]

| Ingestion resolution and frame rate | AV1 or H.265/HEVC | H.264 |
|---|---|---|
| 1080p60 | 12 Mbps | 17 Mbps |
| 1080p30 | 10 Mbps | 14 Mbps |
| 720p60 | 6 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
| 720p30 | 6 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
If your encoder supports AV1 or H.265 reliably, YouTube’s listed target is lower than its H.264 recommendation at each of these settings. Check what your encoder and hardware can sustain, then test a representative fast-moving gameplay scene. YouTube’s table is an ingestion recommendation, not a promise that any one codec or bitrate will look equally good in every game.

How much upload speed to plan for
The critical number is sustained upload capacity at the streaming computer—not the download speed advertised for a broadband plan, nor a brief speed-test peak. YouTube notes that upload is often slower than download, shared network use can constrain a stream, and connectivity disruptions can interrupt it. It recommends allowing 20% headroom and testing under realistic conditions. [YouTube Help: streaming tips]
- For a 12 Mbps video target, a 20% allowance gives a planning estimate of 14.4 Mbps upload (12 × 1.2).
- For a 17 Mbps video target, the equivalent estimate is 20.4 Mbps upload (17 × 1.2).
These calculations apply YouTube’s headroom guidance to the video bitrate; they are practical planning estimates, not guaranteed minimum thresholds. Actual overhead and bitrate behavior vary. If other devices use the connection, test with their usual activity in progress or allow more spare capacity.

What this means for Indian broadband
There is no single upload-speed figure that can establish whether “Indian broadband” is sufficient. The result depends on the ISP, plan, location, wiring or Wi-Fi, network congestion, other household use, and time of day. Measure sustained upload from the actual streaming location during the hours the channel will run, and monitor YouTube’s stream health during a test. If the feed is unstable, reduce bitrate by choosing a lower resolution or frame rate that YouTube lists, and test again.

Encoder settings that matter
YouTube’s current guidance lists RTMP or RTMPS as ingestion protocols; H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 as video codecs; and constant bitrate (CBR) encoding. It recommends a 2-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed 4 seconds. For stereo audio, it recommends AAC or MP3 at 128 Kbps. YouTube recommends RTMPS, the secure extension of RTMP. [YouTube Help: encoder settings]
- Video bitrate: Choose the recommendation matching your codec, resolution, and frame rate from the table above.
- Rate control: Set CBR rather than a variable bitrate mode.
- Keyframes: Set the interval to 2 seconds; do not exceed 4 seconds.
- Audio: Use stereo AAC or MP3 at the recommended 128 Kbps.
- Protocol: Use RTMPS when available.
Set up and test a 24/7 gaming stream
- Choose a target. Select a codec your encoder supports and a resolution/frame-rate row from YouTube’s table. For example, 1080p60 is 12 Mbps with AV1/H.265 or 17 Mbps with H.264.
- Check sustained upload and headroom. Test from the machine and connection that will stream, at the expected operating times. Repeat with normal household or office network use underway; YouTube recommends 20% upload headroom.
- Prefer a wired link where practical. Connect the streaming computer through Ethernet if possible, while remembering that this does not remedy an insufficient ISP upload capacity.
- Apply the encoder settings. Configure CBR, a 2-second keyframe interval (no more than 4 seconds), supported video codec and protocol, and stereo AAC or MP3 audio at 128 Kbps.
- Run a representative test. Include busy gameplay movement and audio. Check the Live Control Room preview and stream health, and confirm that the local recording is being created and is playable.
- Plan archive-safe sessions. If a YouTube replay archive matters, end each session before it reaches 12 hours, then verify the resulting archive and local recording.
Keep a replay archive separate from the live broadcast
A continuous broadcast and a reliable replay archive are different goals. Bitrate affects the outgoing live feed; session duration affects the stated archive risk. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, but warns: “If your stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all.” [YouTube Help: archive live streams]
Rank #4
- Tri-band 2.4GHz + 5GHz + 6GHz; latest WiFi 6E supports 8-streams on tri-band simultaneously, up to 6.6Gbps speed
- AI QoS; satisfies all users' needs by automatically prioritizing data packets
- Powerful processor; 1.8 GHz quad core processor delivers ultra fast and reliable connections
- Mystic light; sync RGB light effects with mystic light compatible products
- Game accelerator; provides an uninterrupted WiFi connection for immersive gaming experiences
For a channel that needs an accessible YouTube VOD, do not rely on one uninterrupted 24-hour session to produce a complete archive. Schedule sessions to end before 12 hours and retain a local recording as an independent copy. YouTube’s cited guidance does not establish whether ending and immediately restarting sessions will preserve uninterrupted viewer playback in every channel configuration, so test the planned handoff before relying on it.
Troubleshoot bitrate and continuity problems
- Stream health reports instability or the stream drops: Check sustained upload at the actual streaming location and time, rather than relying on a download figure or peak result. Account for other network activity, try Ethernet, and lower the resolution or frame rate if needed.
- Your plan advertises fast internet, but the stream still struggles: The advertised download speed does not establish upload performance. Measure the outbound connection under realistic conditions and leave headroom.
- The image looks poor during rapid gameplay: Verify that the encoder is using the intended resolution, frame rate, codec, and matching YouTube bitrate recommendation. Test a busy scene; the recommendation alone does not guarantee a particular game’s image quality.
- The feed or audio behaves unexpectedly: Check that rate control is CBR, keyframes are 2 seconds apart and no more than 4 seconds, and stereo audio uses AAC or MP3 at 128 Kbps.
- A 24-hour broadcast has no complete YouTube replay: A stream over 12 hours may not be captured. Use sessions shorter than 12 hours for archive-dependent workflows and confirm the local recording as well.
