For a YouTube Live stream at 1080p and 25 fps, use 14 Mbps as an initial video-bitrate reference only if your Airtel connection can sustain it. YouTube’s current H.264 guidance gives 5 Mbps minimum and 14 Mbps recommended for 1080p at 30 fps; it does not list a separate 25 fps row. Measure your actual upload under broadcast conditions, test the stream, and lower the bitrate if it is unstable.

What bitrate should you start with?

YouTube’s published H.264 table lists 5 Mbps minimum and 14 Mbps recommended for 1080p at 30 fps. That is the closest listed frame-rate entry for a 25 fps stream—not an exact YouTube specification for 25 fps. Treat 14 Mbps as a starting reference, not a guarantee. YouTube’s live encoder settings guidance recommends testing upload bitrate before a broadcast.

The bitrate you can use reliably depends on the sustained upload available at your location and broadcast time, as well as competing traffic. Airtel says its plan speed is a maximum associated with the selected tariff and actual speed may vary with congestion and other circumstances. An advertised plan speed, or one speed-test result, cannot establish that your stream will remain stable.

Set up the encoder for 1080p25

  1. Set video resolution and frame rate: Choose 1920 × 1080 and 25 fps if those match your production workflow.
  2. Choose an encoder codec: YouTube’s current guidance lists H.264, H.265 (HEVC), and AV1 as supported codecs. The bitrate figures above are specifically from its H.264 table.
  3. Set rate control: Use constant bitrate (CBR), as YouTube specifies in its encoder guidance.
  4. Set keyframes: Use a 2-second keyframe interval. YouTube says not to exceed 4 seconds.
  5. Choose a tested video bitrate: Begin with the 30 fps table’s 14 Mbps recommendation only if your sustained upload test supports it. If the connection varies, reduce the bitrate until the stream is stable; the right margin depends on local variation and other network use.

Audio also uses network capacity, so leave room for it and normal upload variation rather than treating the video bitrate as the entire connection requirement.

Test Airtel upload under real streaming conditions

  1. Test the connection where and when you will stream. Use the same network setup and time of day as the planned broadcast. If other people or devices will be uploading, include that normal activity in the test.
  2. Run a pre-stream test in YouTube Live Control Room. Include audio and movement similar to the intended program. A static scene may not reveal issues that appear with motion.
  3. Check stream health before going live. Look for warnings or instability, then lower the video bitrate and test again if needed.
  4. Monitor stream health during the broadcast. If problems appear, reduce the bitrate to a level the connection can sustain.

YouTube advises: “We recommend running a speed test to test your upload bitrate” and “Make sure to test before you start your live stream.” Its guidance also recommends testing with representative audio and movement and monitoring stream health during the event.

How Airtel plan terms affect the answer

Airtel’s published terms say advertised plan speeds are maximums and may vary. They also list a fair-usage threshold of 3333 GB per billing cycle, after which speed is reduced to 1 Mbps, under the terms accessed in 2026. Check the terms that apply to your particular plan before relying on that threshold; it is not necessarily universal or permanent.

TP-Link AX1800 WiFi 6 Router (Archer AX21 V5)
  • DUAL-BAND WIFI 6 ROUTER: Wi-Fi 6(802.11ax) technology achieves faster speeds, greater capacity and reduced network congestion compared to the previous gen. All WiFi routers require a separate modem. Dual-Band WiFi routers do not support the 6 GHz band.
  • AX1800: Enjoy smoother and more stable streaming, gaming, downloading with 1.8 Gbps total bandwidth (up to 1200 Mbps on 5 GHz and up to 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz). Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
  • CONNECT MORE DEVICES: Wi-Fi 6 technology communicates more data to more devices simultaneously using revolutionary OFDMA technology
  • EXTENSIVE COVERAGE: Achieve the strong, reliable WiFi coverage with Archer AX1800 as it focuses signal strength to your devices far away using Beamforming technology, 4 high-gain antennas and an advanced front-end module (FEM) chipset
  • OUR CYBERSECURITY COMMITMENT: TP-Link is a signatory of the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s (CISA) Secure-by-Design pledge. This device is designed, built, and maintained, with advanced security as a core requirement.

Airtel’s current terms also report a test-setup-specific typical 10th-percentile result of 18 Mbps download and 8 Mbps upload. That is a population and test-setup figure, not an individual guarantee or a prediction for your connection. TRAI’s broadband FAQ discusses fair-speed usage and minimum prescribed broadband speeds, but the cited FAQ does not establish a specific upload guarantee for an individual Airtel service.

Troubleshoot an unstable stream

  • YouTube reports low or unstable bitrate: Reduce the encoder’s video bitrate, then run another pre-stream test. A package’s advertised speed does not prove sustained upload capacity.
  • The stream works at some times but not others: Repeat the test at the intended broadcast time. Airtel notes that actual speed can vary, including with congestion.
  • Problems begin when the program has more motion: Test with movement representative of the broadcast, then adjust bitrate based on the result.
  • Other devices are uploading during the stream: Test with that traffic present. If stability suffers, reduce competing uploads or lower the stream bitrate.
  • Performance drops after heavy monthly use: Check the fair-usage terms for your plan and billing cycle; Airtel’s published terms list a threshold and a reduced speed, but applicability depends on the plan terms.
