If audio drops between videos in a YouTube Live playlist, find where the signal disappears: listen to the playlist player, the encoder’s program output or local recording, and YouTube’s Live Control Room preview. If the player or encoder is silent at the transition, investigate playback and audio routing; if those remain audible but YouTube loses sound, check encoder settings, dashboard errors, and the connection. YouTube’s guidance does not identify one universal setting for playlist-transition gaps, so the right fix depends on your player and encoder.
Locate where the audio disappears
Compare the same transition at three points. This separates a playlist playback problem from one introduced later in the stream path.
- Playlist player: Listen to the player as one video ends and the next begins. Note whether the gap is audible there.
- Encoder output: If available, listen to the encoder’s program output or make a local recording. Check whether the sound continues through that same transition.
- YouTube output: Monitor the Live Control Room preview, then check the resulting recording if one is available.
If silence appears at the player, start with playlist playback and source behavior. If the player is audible but the encoder output is not, check the mix and routing. If the local encoder output stays audible but YouTube does not, focus on encoder audio settings, ingestion errors, and the outbound connection. YouTube recommends checking encoder sound and local archives when troubleshooting stream quality (Troubleshoot your YouTube live stream).
Fix the issue with a controlled test
Before changing settings in a public broadcast, reproduce the issue in a test stream. Include several playlist transitions, and compare the outputs at each point in the path. YouTube advises testing before streaming and monitoring audio and video quality during a stream (YouTube live streaming tips – Computer; Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions).

1. Check playlist playback
If the player itself goes silent, inspect how that player handles the end of a file and the start of the next one. Compare transitions involving different videos: if only certain files cause silence, that observation can help isolate whether the problem follows a particular file. The reviewed YouTube guidance does not prescribe a setting for playlist apps, so use the playback controls and documentation for the player you actually use.
2. Keep the source in the outgoing mix
If the player is audible but the encoder output drops sound, confirm that the playlist player remains part of the outgoing program mix as the files change. Check that the source is routed to the encoder and that the mix continues to feed it at transitions. YouTube’s encoder setup guidance covers connecting and checking audio sources, but does not give playlist-app-specific routing steps (Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder).

3. Read Live Control Room errors
Look for audio or ingestion errors in Live Control Room and address the specific issue reported. YouTube’s documented errors include a missing audio stream, multiple audio streams, an unsupported audio codec, and incorrect audio settings. Its Help page includes the message “Your encoder is sending no audio” and notes that some encoders have a control to turn audio on; YouTube’s pipeline requires audio on all videos (Live streaming error messages).
4. Check encoder health and connection
If the encoder’s local output sounds clean but the YouTube preview does not, check the encoder for errors and high CPU load. If the encoder output appears healthy, check the outbound internet connection. YouTube includes these checks in its live-stream troubleshooting guidance (Troubleshoot your YouTube live stream).

- PLUG IN AND HEAR SOUND IN SECONDS - USB Type-A connector with a 3.5mm stereo headphone output and a separate 3.5mm mono microphone input. No drivers, no software, no external power - the adapter is USB bus-powered and is recognized as a standard USB audio device.
- WORKS ON WINDOWS, MAC AND LINUX - Driverless on Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP/Server 2003/Vista/7/8, Linux and Mac OSX, and compliant with the USB Audio Device Class 1.0 specification, so any system that supports class-compliant USB audio will see it. It does NOT support 4-pole headsets on a single combo plug, it does NOT power passive speakers, and it does NOT add surround sound - it is a stereo 2-channel adapter.
- FOR LAPTOPS AND DESKTOPS THAT NEED AN AUDIO PORT BACK - Adds a headphone and mic port to a laptop, desktop, or mini PC whose onboard jack has failed or was never there. Managed and work-issued computers can block new USB audio devices by policy - check with your IT department before ordering for a company machine.
- SABRENT SUPPORT AND WARRANTY - What is in the box: one USB audio sound adapter. Backed by a 1-year limited warranty, extended to 2 years when you register within 90 days on the manufacturer's website.
5. Confirm the fix at every output
Run the same test again and verify that transitions stay audible in the player, local encoder output, and YouTube preview or recording. Keep a local recording when possible; YouTube also recommends checking the local archive during troubleshooting. Do not rely on a transition that has only been checked at one point in the chain.
What the symptom can—and cannot—tell you
A silent transition does not, by itself, identify the cause. The gap may originate in playlist playback or source routing, or appear later between the encoder and YouTube. Check whether the player, local output, or YouTube output first goes silent rather than assuming that every setup has the same fix. The official YouTube guidance cited here covers general source, encoder, and ingestion diagnosis; it does not establish a universal playlist-transition remedy or an incidence rate for this issue.
