If YouTube keeps reconnecting on JioFiber after a router firmware update, first find out whether the interruption affects only YouTube or points to the Wi-Fi, router, or internet connection. The timing makes the update worth reporting, but it does not prove the update caused the problem: the official YouTube and Jio support pages reviewed do not identify a specific Jio firmware release or model-specific fix.
Before changing anything, note what is happening

- Which device is affected: TV, streaming device, phone, tablet, or computer.
- Whether it connects to the router over Wi-Fi or Ethernet.
- The exact YouTube error, if one appears. YouTube lists “Connection to server lost.” and “Playback error. Tap to retry.” among its playback errors. YouTube’s video troubleshooting guide covers these messages.
- Whether other apps or services disconnect, and whether other devices on JioFiber have the same issue.
- The router model, firmware version, and approximate date the update appeared, if you can see them in MyJio or the router interface.
Do not reset the router or install firmware from an unofficial source as a first response. The Jio material reviewed does not document a supported rollback procedure for this symptom.
Run JioFiber diagnostics in MyJio
- Link your JioFiber account in the MyJio app, if it is not already linked.
- Open Home, then JioCare, and select Run Diagnostics.
- Review the result and follow the actions shown. Jio says the diagnostic checks connection health, router status, device configuration, and Wi-Fi strength. It may flag slow speed, weak signal, an offline router, a configuration error, or device overload.
- If the issue remains, use the app’s service-request option and share the symptom details you recorded.
Jio’s general router guidance says a restart refreshes the network connection and can resolve minor connectivity or speed issues. It recommends restarting once a month; that is maintenance advice, not evidence that repeated restarts fix a firmware-related problem. See Jio’s router restart guidance.
#1 Best Overall
- DUAL-BAND WIFI 6 ROUTER: Wi-Fi 6(802.11ax) technology achieves faster speeds, greater capacity and reduced network congestion compared to the previous gen. All WiFi routers require a separate modem. Dual-Band WiFi routers do not support the 6 GHz band.
- AX1800: Enjoy smoother and more stable streaming, gaming, downloading with 1.8 Gbps total bandwidth (up to 1200 Mbps on 5 GHz and up to 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz). Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
- CONNECT MORE DEVICES: Wi-Fi 6 technology communicates more data to more devices simultaneously using revolutionary OFDMA technology
- EXTENSIVE COVERAGE: Achieve the strong, reliable WiFi coverage with Archer AX1800 as it focuses signal strength to your devices far away using Beamforming technology, 4 high-gain antennas and an advanced front-end module (FEM) chipset
- OUR CYBERSECURITY COMMITMENT: TP-Link is a signatory of the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s (CISA) Secure-by-Design pledge. This device is designed, built, and maintained, with advanced security as a core requirement.
Work out whether it is YouTube, the device, or the connection
Change one variable at a time and replay the same stream. These comparisons help narrow the fault; none alone proves that a firmware update is responsible.
- Try another internet connection. Connect the affected device to a different network, such as a phone hotspot where practical. If the same YouTube stream plays there, JioFiber or the home Wi-Fi path becomes more likely; if it still drops, investigate the device or YouTube app too. YouTube recommends testing another connection for loading or buffering problems. See YouTube’s TV playback troubleshooting steps.
- Compare devices and services. Try YouTube on another device on JioFiber, then check whether other apps or services disconnect on the affected device. If several devices and services drop, that points toward the router, signal, or connection. If just one YouTube app/device is affected, focus on that app and device.
- On a TV or streaming device, restart and update the app/device. Quit and reopen YouTube, restart the TV or streaming device, check for device software and app updates, then test another supported playback method if available. YouTube’s TV guidance also suggests checking the connection near the TV.
- On a phone or tablet, clear YouTube’s app cache and retry. Also test the app on another connection.
- Compare Wi-Fi with Ethernet, if possible. Temporarily wire the affected device to the router if it has an Ethernet port. If wired playback works while Wi-Fi drops, investigate Wi-Fi coverage or interference. A cable is a diagnostic comparison, not a proven firmware fix; Google Fiber’s general guidance notes that a hardwired connection provides the best internet connection. See Google Fiber’s Wi-Fi guidance.
Check speed, Wi-Fi signal, and network load
YouTube lists these approximate recommended sustained speeds for video playback. They are recommendations, not guarantees against disconnects, and actual needs can vary with other network use.
| Playback resolution | Approximate recommended sustained speed |
|---|---|
| 4K | 20 Mbps |
| 1080p HD | 5 Mbps |
| 720p HD | 2.5 Mbps |
| 480p SD | 1.1 Mbps |
| 360p SD | 0.7 Mbps |
These figures come from YouTube Help; the retrieved page does not state a publication year. Separately, YouTube’s TV troubleshooting page says to have at least 7 Mbps for HD streaming. That is TV-specific guidance, not another row in the resolution table or a promise of uninterrupted playback. See YouTube’s TV troubleshooting guidance.

- NIGHTHAWK WIFI 6 ROUTER FOR YOUR WHOLE HOME: Delivers fast, reliable WiFi across every room of your apartment or small home for streaming, gaming, video calls, and smart home devices, all running at the same time without slowing each other down.
- WORKS WITH YOUR EXISTING INTERNET SERVICE: Pairs with your existing modem or gateway via ethernet. Compatible with most cable, fiber, DSL, and satellite providers. Some gateways and modem router combos may require bridge mode. No coax needed.
- SET UP AND MANAGE YOUR NETWORK WITH THE NIGHTHAWK APP: Download the free Nighthawk app on iOS or Android for guided setup. Manage WiFi, run speed tests, pause devices, and set up guest networks from anywhere. Active internet required.
- READY FOR THE DEVICES YOU ALREADY OWN: Your phones, laptops, and TVs work right out of the box. WiFi 6 delivers speeds up to 1.8 Gbps across 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. Backward compatible with WiFi 5 and earlier.
- COVERAGE IN EVERY ROOM: Covers up to 1,500 sq. ft. for up to 20 connected devices. Walls, floors, and interference can reduce range. Larger or multi-story homes may benefit from a NETGEAR Orbi mesh WiFi system.
- Try lowering YouTube’s playback quality temporarily. If interruptions change, available throughput or competing network traffic may be involved.
- Check Wi-Fi where the TV or other affected device is actually used. Distance, walls, metal obstructions, and interference can weaken the connection.
- Check whether many devices are using the connection at the same time. Jio’s diagnostics may flag device overload or weak signal.
A speed result at the router does not by itself establish the signal or sustained throughput at the playback device. Compare conditions near the device and, when possible, compare Wi-Fi with Ethernet.

Raise a Jio service request through MyJio if diagnostics identify a router, configuration, signal, or service issue, or if multiple devices and services disconnect. Include:
- Router model and firmware version, if available.
- Approximate date the update appeared.
- The exact YouTube error text and the affected device.
- Whether other devices or services are affected.
- Whether playback drops over Ethernet and whether it works on another internet connection.
- The MyJio diagnostic result and any troubleshooting actions already tried.
These details help distinguish a general connection fault from a single-app problem. The official sources reviewed do not establish a Jio firmware defect, a model-specific remedy, or a supported rollback for this symptom; ask Jio to assess the router rather than trying unofficial firmware.

Consider an extender only if coverage is the problem
A Jio Extender is relevant when diagnostics or a Wi-Fi comparison indicate weak coverage in part of the home—not simply because reconnections began after an update. Jio describes its extender as a way to widen coverage in larger homes. It is not established as a firmware fix. See Jio’s Jio Extender information.
