For a replay clip already saved on your streaming PC, use OBS Media Source. For live gameplay arriving from a second PC, consider NDI over a suitable local network. They solve different problems: local media plays a file, while NDI carries a live source across an IP network.
Choose based on where the replay is coming from
| What you want to do | Better fit | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Play a saved highlight, intro, or replay clip from the streaming PC | OBS Media Source | It plays a local audio or video file in an OBS scene, with loop and restart-on-activation controls. |
| Send live gameplay or another live video feed from a second computer | NDI | NDI carries video, audio, and metadata between systems on a network; it is not itself a codec or a replacement for OBS’s YouTube output. |
| Save the last moments of your own live session as a replay clip | OBS Replay Buffer | Replay Buffer captures recent content for saving with a configured hotkey. It is distinct from playing a saved file or sending a second PC’s feed over NDI. |
This distinction applies in India as elsewhere. The cited software documentation does not establish India-specific ISP performance, upload speeds, pricing, or availability, so choose your local network based on its actual capacity rather than an assumed regional standard.
Play a saved replay file with OBS Media Source
- Add the source: In OBS Studio, select the scene where the clip should appear, click the + button in the Sources panel, and choose Media Source.
- Choose the file: In the Media Source properties, select the local video file. Keep the file accessible at the same path whenever you use the scene.
- Set playback behavior: Enable Loop if the clip should repeat. Enable Restart playback when source becomes active when the clip should start from its beginning each time the source is activated. Leave these controls off when their behavior is not wanted.
- Check the scene: Preview the scene and confirm the clip’s picture and audio are working before streaming. Use OBS audio controls to set an appropriate level for the clip alongside game and microphone audio.
Media Source is the straightforward choice for a one-PC setup because the replay is already a file on that computer. OBS documents it as a way to play local audio and video files in scenes; this workflow recommendation is based on those documented functions, not on a hands-on comparison test. Use NDI when the source is live on another PC
NDI is relevant when one computer is producing a live feed and another computer is running OBS or handling the stream. It moves the source over the local network; the streaming computer still needs its normal internet connection and streaming software to send the final program to YouTube.
#1 Best Overall
- Compact but Powerful Design: ZowieBox is smaller than a phone, featuring a tally light and LCD screen for streaming status. Manage connected PTZ cameras, tally light, video/audio, OSD, work mode, streams, network, and system settings. Support for VISCA over IP encoder workflows enables flexible PTZ control, while the dashboard provides video preview and system status.
- Confirm the two-PC workflow: Use NDI only when you need to carry a live source between networked systems. It is unnecessary for a replay file already stored on the streaming PC.
- Plan the local network: NDI says gigabit networking is essential for production workflows and lists up to 150 Mbps for a typical 1080p60 stream. That is a typical figure, not a fixed or guaranteed rate for every NDI format. NDI bandwidth varies by format and is not deterministic, so consult the requirements for the specific format and leave capacity for the rest of your network traffic.
- Prefer a wired path where practical: NDI supports wired networking. A wired gigabit LAN is a sensible starting point for a high-bandwidth two-PC workflow; that recommendation does not mean Wi-Fi cannot work, but its suitability depends on the actual network.
- Configure the NDI source and receive it in OBS: Set up the NDI workflow on the source and receiving systems, then add or select the corresponding NDI source in the receiving workflow. Available controls depend on the NDI tools and integration you use; the cited sources do not establish one universal OBS menu path or plugin version.
- Test before going live: Check that video and audio reach the receiving PC and that the network remains stable during the workload you expect. Keep the YouTube streaming output separate: NDI carries the local source, not the stream to YouTube.
For multicast NDI setups, network administration may matter. NDI advises multicast filtering such as IGMP snooping to avoid unnecessary network burden. This is a conditional consideration, not a setting every home network must change. NDI: What is NDI? · NDI bandwidth guidance · NDI for Video · NDI performance and implementation
Save a replay while gaming live
If by “replay” you mean saving the last moments of a live session, OBS Replay Buffer is a capture workflow rather than a source-transfer method. Configure Replay Buffer in OBS, set a hotkey to save the replay, and start the buffer before you need the clip. OBS also documents recording alongside streaming or offline. The resulting saved clip can later be played as a Media Source; NDI is only relevant if a live source must travel from another PC. OBS Studio Overview Guide · OBS Standard Recording Output Guide

This setup allows SDI video signals to be transmitted via a LAN. Note: The SDI signal of ZowieBox (hardware before 10.1.13) is not compatible with ATOMAS SHOGUN INFERNO, SHOGUN ULTRA, Blackmagic Decklink Quad 2
- Standalone Live Streaming: Just plug and play, ZowieBox can stream videos PC-free, not affecting your computer performance at all. Support SRT caller/RTMP(S)/RTSP streaming protocol
Common problems and what to check
- The clip does not appear: Verify the Media Source points to the correct local file and that the file remains available at that path.
- A clip repeats unexpectedly or starts at the wrong point: Review the Media Source’s Loop and Restart playback when source becomes active settings.
- NDI video stutters or the network feels overloaded: Check the format’s bandwidth needs, the capacity of the local network, and whether a wired gigabit connection is practical. Do not assume every NDI format uses the same bandwidth.
- Multicast NDI causes excess network traffic: Check whether the network supports appropriate multicast filtering, including IGMP snooping, as NDI recommends.
- The local NDI feed works but YouTube is not receiving a live stream: NDI only moves the source across the local network. Separately check the streaming PC’s OBS output and YouTube live setup.
- You want to replay recent gameplay but have no saved file: Set up and start OBS Replay Buffer, then use its save hotkey; Media Source can play the clip after it has been saved.
Copyright and YouTube considerations
Whether footage comes from a local file or NDI does not change the need to have rights to the video and audio you broadcast. Check the permissions for game footage, music, overlays, and other material before streaming. This comparison does not establish specific YouTube policy outcomes for a particular channel or clip; review YouTube’s current rules for your circumstances.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep uploaded gaming videos looping as a YouTube live stream, rather than send live gameplay from a second PC, StreamNeo is a different option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it streams the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly: $9.99 per month. For creators in India, UPI works. It streams to YouTube only and plays uploaded videos, not a live camera feed. Start the free day.
