Usually, no. If YouTube has already applied a copyright strike, deleting the livestream’s video on demand (VOD) will not remove it. Deletion can prevent a strike only when YouTube has sent a scheduled copyright removal request and you delete the video within its seven-day action window. Check the notice and YouTube Studio to see which situation applies.
First, check whether the takedown is pending or the strike is active
- Read YouTube’s email. It should explain the copyright action and any deadline.
- Open the item in YouTube Studio. A scheduled request is labeled “Copyright – pending takedown.” You have seven days to act on that scheduled request. YouTube Help: About copyright removal requests.
- Check whether YouTube has already removed the livestream and applied a strike. A pending request is not the same as an active strike. The action available depends on the status shown in the notice and Studio.
When deleting the VOD can prevent a strike
If the notice is a scheduled copyright removal request, delete the VOD within the seven-day window to avoid the strike. The deadline is tied to the scheduled request, so use the date in YouTube’s notice rather than assuming you have seven days from when you happen to see this article.
If the seven-day window has passed, deleting the content will not resolve the copyright strike. YouTube states: “After the seven days are over, deleting the content won’t resolve the copyright strike.” About copyright removal requests.
Content ID claim or copyright strike?
A Content ID claim and a copyright removal request are different processes. A Content ID claim typically does not itself result in a copyright strike. A valid copyright removal request can lead to removal and a strike. Read the specific notice before deciding what action to take; deleting a replay is not a universal fix for every copyright notice. If the strike is already active
Deleting the VOD will not clear an active strike. YouTube lists these possible routes:
- Complete Copyright School and wait 90 days. The strike can expire after the required steps and time. Expiration does not restore the removed video.
- Ask the claimant to retract the removal request. YouTube does not mediate ownership disputes, so a retraction must come from the claimant.
- Submit a counter notification only if you believe the removal was a mistake or the content was misidentified. This is a legal process, not simply an appeal button. YouTube forwards the counter notification to the claimant. If sharing personal information is a concern, YouTube says an authorized representative, such as an attorney, can submit it on your behalf.
See YouTube Help: Understand copyright strikes and YouTube Help: Submit a counter notification for the platform’s procedures.

What a livestream strike means for live access
If YouTube removes an active livestream for copyright, it says the channel receives a copyright strike and live-streaming access is restricted for seven days. If the channel receives another copyright strike, the restriction is 14 days. These are restrictions on live-streaming access, not a way to clear the strike by deleting the VOD. Understand copyright strikes.
What this means for creators in India
The India-localized YouTube Help guidance supports the platform-process details above: the scheduled-removal window, strike outcomes, and listed resolution routes. It does not determine whether a particular use of music, footage, or other material is lawful under Indian law. That depends on the content and circumstances. If you are contesting a removal or need advice about your rights under Indian law, consult a qualified Indian lawyer; YouTube’s process is not a legal determination.

Keep a future livestream from depending on a home computer
For a future YouTube stream built from uploaded videos, StreamNeo runs the stream from the cloud: upload a recording or make a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It does not clear copyright claims or strikes, and it is for uploaded videos rather than a live camera feed.
Or let it run in the cloud
Nothing has to stay on at home. Each slot streams the uploaded file as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; automatic recovery can resume the stream if YouTube drops it. The first day is free with no card, and the Monthly plan is $9.99 per month.
