A YouTube Manager is the clearest choice when someone needs to receive copyright-issue emails and act on claims in Studio. An Editor can also view and take actions in the Content detection tab, but YouTube’s role table does not list Editors as recipients of copyright-issue emails. Both roles can manage live streams. The channel owner should grant only the access needed and remain involved in decisions that assert rights or begin a legal response.
First distinguish a Content ID claim from a copyright removal request: they are different processes, with different consequences and response options. For a channel that runs around the clock, check the specific live stream or archived video named in the notice rather than assuming a claim applies to every part of the broadcast.
Which channel role should handle copyright claims?
YouTube channel permissions let an owner grant role-based access without sharing Google Account sign-in details. YouTube says this is safer than sharing a password. See its channel permissions guidance.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches| Role | Copyright notifications | Content detection | Other relevant limits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Manager | Can receive email notifications about copyright issues. | Can view and take actions. | Can manage channel permissions, streams, and content. |
| Editor | YouTube’s role table does not list Editors as recipients of copyright-issue emails. | Can view and take actions. | Can manage streams, but cannot manage permissions, delete published content, or delete scheduled, live, or completed streams. |
Choose a trusted Manager if the person needs notification emails as well as the ability to act in Content detection, or if they need to administer permissions. An Editor may be sufficient if they only need Studio’s Content detection actions and do not need those additional capabilities. Use the narrowest role that covers the work. The role table describes Studio access; it does not establish that the role grants legal representation or authority to file a counter notification for someone else. Check YouTube’s current role table before delegating, since permissions and interface labels can change.

Identify the notice before choosing a response
A notice about a Content ID match is not the same as a copyright takedown. Open the affected item in Studio and read the notice and claim details before acting.
| Notice or workflow | What it means | Where to respond |
|---|---|---|
| Content ID claim | YouTube detected a match. The claim may block, monetize, or track the video and usually does not affect the channel itself. | In Studio, go to Content, select the claimed video, and open its Restrictions or claim details. Dispute only if you have a valid basis; otherwise consider available edit or removal options. |
| Appeal of a reinstated claim | The claimant rejected the initial dispute. An appeal may be available; a blocking claim may show “Escalate to Appeal.” | Consider the legal and channel risks first. The claimant generally has 7 days to respond, and rejection can lead to a removal request. |
| Copyright removal request or strike | This is a takedown request, not an ordinary Content ID claim. If valid, YouTube removes the video and applies a copyright strike. | Seek a retraction or, only if the removal was mistaken, consider a counter notification. |
| Content Manager claim review | A partner-side rights-holder workflow, separate from ordinary creator-channel permissions. | Content Manager users review the claim status and action queue. Disputed claims are not enforced until reviewed. |
A 24/7 stream may involve both a live broadcast and an archived video. Inspect the item named in Studio: do not assume a claim on an archive necessarily covers the live broadcast, or vice versa. YouTube’s overviews explain the distinction between Content ID claims and copyright removal requests.

When is it valid to dispute a Content ID claim?
YouTube lists three possible grounds: you have the necessary rights, your use qualifies for a copyright exception such as fair use, or the match is mistaken. Giving credit, owning a copy, or choosing not to monetize is not by itself a valid reason. YouTube notifies the claimant, who generally has 30 days to respond. YouTube also says it cannot decide ownership or whether a particular use qualifies for an exception. Its guidance puts the decision plainly: “Ultimately, YouTube can’t decide whether you should dispute a claim.” Read YouTube’s dispute guidance and use evidence that supports the specific basis you select.

When does a counter notification apply?
A counter notification is for content removed after a copyright removal request—not for an ordinary Content ID claim. YouTube describes it as a legal request to reinstate removed content and says to file only if the removal was mistaken. It should be submitted by the original uploader or an authorized representative, not simply by someone who has a Manager or Editor role.
For a valid counter notification forwarded to the claimant, YouTube gives the claimant 10 US business days to provide evidence of legal action to keep the material down. If the claimant does not do so, YouTube says the content will be reinstated unless the uploader deleted it. The cited guidance frames this period in U.S. terms; legal consequences and requirements can vary by jurisdiction. Review YouTube’s counter-notification information and consider qualified legal advice for a high-stakes dispute.

What happens to revenue while a claim is disputed?
For monetized content, YouTube’s revenue handling depends on when the dispute is filed. If the creator disputes within 5 days of the claim, revenue is held from the date the claim was placed. If the creator disputes later, revenue is held from the date of the dispute while review is pending. YouTube says the disputed revenue is held separately and allocated when the dispute is resolved. These rules concern the claimed video; a claim response does not itself guarantee that a live broadcast will continue or prevent an interruption. See YouTube’s guidance on revenue during Content ID disputes.
Keep the stream operating without confusing it with claim handling
Copyright response is a Studio permissions and decision-making issue; it is separate from the technical method used to keep a channel live. If you run a prerecorded 24/7 YouTube stream, StreamNeo is a cloud option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops uploaded video in the cloud, so your computer does not have to stay on. StreamNeo is YouTube-only and does not stream from a camera. Learn more at StreamNeo.
Or let it run in the cloud
Upload your video or playlist, add the YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; the video streams as uploaded at any quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. This handles stream continuity, not copyright decisions: review claims and notices in YouTube Studio.
