There is no single reliable monthly price for a VPS that can run a 24/7 YouTube stream in India: the total depends on your sustained bitrate, the VPS provider’s outbound-transfer allowance and overage rules, and local charges. As a planning estimate, each continuously streamed 1 Mbps uses about 324 decimal GB in a 30-day month. Calculate the transfer first, then compare it with a specific India-region plan’s terms.

Calculate how much bandwidth a 24/7 stream uses

A stream’s actual video and audio bitrate—not resolution by itself—determines its approximate transfer. For a 30-day month, the calculation is:

Mbps × 1,000,000 bits/s × 2,592,000 seconds ÷ 8 bits/byte

That equals about 324 decimal GB per continuously streamed Mbps. For quick estimates, use Mbps × 324 for GB or Mbps × 0.324 for decimal TB per 30-day month.

Sustained bitrate Approximate transfer in 30 days
4.5 Mbps 1,458 GB (1.46 decimal TB)
6 Mbps 1,944 GB (1.94 decimal TB)
10 Mbps 3,240 GB (3.24 decimal TB)
14 Mbps 4,536 GB (4.54 decimal TB)

These are calculations from bitrate and time, not provider-reported usage figures. They exclude protocol overhead, interruptions and restarts, and any provider-specific billing conventions. Decimal TB and binary TiB are different units, so check how your host defines its quota.

Choose the bitrate before choosing a VPS quota

YouTube’s live encoder guidance lists recommended H.264 ingestion bitrates of 10 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps and 14 Mbps for 1080p at 60 fps. Its table lists 6 Mbps for both 720p30 and 720p60. Recommendations differ for H.265 and AV1, so use the setting for your intended codec and frame rate rather than estimating transfer from resolution alone. YouTube’s guidance was accessed on October 3, 2026: Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.

The same guidance recommends constant-bitrate encoding, a 2-second keyframe interval (not over 4 seconds), and testing with representative motion and audio while monitoring stream health. It supports RTMP/RTMPS and recommends RTMPS, saying: “We recommend streaming to YouTube Live with RTMPS, a secure extension to the popular RTMP video protocol.” These settings help you identify the bitrate to budget for; they do not change the monthly calculation method.

What determines the VPS cost in India?

The monthly bill is not just the VPS instance price. A useful estimate is:

monthly total = VPS base fee + excess-transfer charges + applicable tax/IP charges + storage or software costs

Do not put a firm total beside that formula until you have checked each term for the specific plan and region. Compare:

  • Included outbound transfer: Match the quota against your calculated monthly usage, leaving room for overhead and reconnects. Check whether the provider caps traffic, bills overages, or throttles service.
  • Region and final checkout price: Confirm India-region availability if it matters to your latency or requirements. Check applicable GST or other tax, exchange-rate conversion, and any IPv4 charge.
  • Transfer accounting: Confirm whether the provider counts outbound traffic only, how it measures usage, and whether its units are decimal GB/TB or binary GiB/TiB.
  • Workload: Copying or remuxing a compatible encoded video is different from re-encoding it. Re-encoding can require substantially more CPU; do not assume a low-cost, small VPS can handle it without checking the workload.
  • Number of streams: Each additional simultaneous channel adds its own outbound stream transfer and may add compute demand. Do not multiply one stream’s VPS upload by its audience size: YouTube distributes playback to viewers.

A search-result extract for a StreamNeo comparison published about two months before October 3, 2026 cited examples of DigitalOcean transfer allowances, an Amazon Lightsail bundle, and a Hetzner price adjustment. Those are secondary-source figures, not verified current India-plan recommendations, so they do not establish an India VPS total. The evidence available here does not identify a cheapest suitable India VPS at a specified bitrate.

Compare a VPS with managed streaming options

A VPS is rented infrastructure you operate. Managed streaming subscriptions bundle cloud broadcasting and related service features; their fees are not VPS bandwidth charges. Google Cloud Live Stream API is a third, usage-metered category, not a general-purpose VPS. Compare the billing model and limits that apply to your own stream rather than treating these options as interchangeable.

Each slot includes 10 GB storage, pooled across active slots.
YtLive Stream Its official page advertises looped or scheduled cloud broadcasts and automatic reconnect. Advertised plans are ₹499/month for one connected or active channel with a 720p limit; ₹999/month for two channels and 1080p output; ₹1,999/month for five channels with 1080p high bitrate; and ₹4,999/month for 20 channels with source-quality output and dedicated streaming VM nodes. StreamNeo keeps a YouTube stream running from the cloud, at any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, with a free first day. It is not a VPS rental: you upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and start the stream. StreamNeo plays uploaded videos; it does not broadcast from a camera.

Estimate your monthly transfer and compare plans

  1. Set the stream output. Choose the resolution, frame rate and codec, then set a bitrate appropriate for those settings. YouTube automatically transcodes live streams into viewer output formats; calculate VPS egress from the bitrate sent to YouTube.
  2. Calculate one channel’s 30-day transfer. Multiply sustained Mbps by 324 to estimate decimal GB. For example, 10 Mbps is about 3,240 GB (3.24 decimal TB) before overhead.
  3. Scale for simultaneous channels. Add the transfer estimates for each stream. Do not add viewer counts to the calculation; the VPS sends the ingest stream to YouTube, which handles viewer distribution.
  4. Check the VPS plan terms. Confirm region, included outbound transfer, overage or cap policy, unit convention, IPv4 cost and tax. Compare the plan with the estimate plus a practical margin for overhead and reconnects.
  5. Compare the real operating burden. Include any storage or software, the work of monitoring and reconnecting, and whether your server can copy/remux or must re-encode. For a managed service, compare its channel, quality, storage and recovery limits instead of calling its subscription a bandwidth fee.

Or let it run in the cloud

With StreamNeo, upload your video or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; the uploaded video streams at its original quality up to 4K 60fps for one price per slot, and the service automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. The same product is on every plan; only the billing length changes. You can pay for a day, a week, a month, 6 months or a year, cancel any time, and use UPI or cards in India. For 5 or more slots, contact StreamNeo support. See StreamNeo or compare plans, then start the free first day.

Common budgeting mistakes

  • Using resolution as the transfer estimate: Resolution alone does not tell you the actual bitrate. Use the encoder’s configured bitrate and intended codec/frame rate.
  • Assuming the advertised VPS price is the total: A small base fee can be outweighed by overage, tax, IP or storage charges. Check the provider’s full terms and checkout price.
  • Mixing managed-service and VPS prices: A managed plan may include looping, scheduling or recovery. Its subscription is not an estimate of raw VPS bandwidth.
  • Assuming the same instance handles every video task: A server that can send an already encoded file may not have enough CPU for continuous re-encoding. Check the actual encode workload.
  • Confusing monthly transfer units: Decimal GB/TB and binary GiB/TiB are not interchangeable; compare like units.
