If a YouTube live stream keeps stopping on ACT Fibernet, first compare it on another device and, if possible, another internet connection. Then test near the router, reduce competing network use, and compare Wi-Fi with Ethernet. These checks can narrow the problem to one device, home Wi-Fi, or a wider connection issue; they do not by themselves prove packet loss or an ACT fault.
First identify what is disconnecting
This guidance is for watching another channel’s live stream. A viewer’s playback uses download bandwidth; the upload-speed figures sometimes published for broadcasters do not diagnose a viewer’s connection.
When the issue happens, note the channel, time, viewing device, whether it is on Wi-Fi or Ethernet, and what you see: buffering, playback stopping, or a device message that internet access was lost. Repeat tests at different times if the problem is intermittent.
Compare devices, streams, and connections
Try another device on the same ACT connection
Play the same live stream on a second device connected to the same ACT router. Also try another YouTube video or a different online service. If only one device has trouble, investigate its app, browser, software, or Wi-Fi connection first. If several devices or services fail, the cause may be broader. Neither pattern alone establishes the root cause.

Try another internet connection if available
Play the same stream on a different connection, such as mobile data. YouTube recommends comparing another connection and another supported device when troubleshooting playback. If it works elsewhere, that points toward the ACT connection or home network, but does not distinguish between them or confirm an outage.
Test Wi-Fi and home network conditions
Move closer to the router and reduce competing use
Bring the viewing device near the router, with fewer walls and other obstructions between them. Temporarily pause large downloads and reduce other active network use, then replay the stream. YouTube and ACT both identify network load, distance, and interference as useful factors to check.

Compare Wi-Fi with Ethernet
If the device has an Ethernet port, connect it to the router with a suitable cable and test the same stream. ACT identifies Cat5e or Cat6 Ethernet as wired options and says wired connections provide consistent performance. If Ethernet works while Wi-Fi does not, focus on Wi-Fi placement, interference, or equipment; a cable does not establish that an ISP-side issue has been repaired.
A cable is useful here as a comparison, not a guaranteed fix. Check that the viewing device supports Ethernet and choose a length that can reach the router safely.

Check playback quality and bandwidth
Lower quality temporarily
In YouTube’s player, open the settings gear and choose a lower quality setting for a test. If lower quality plays more reliably, the connection may be struggling to sustain the selected stream under current conditions, but this does not prove packet loss.
Interpret speed figures correctly
YouTube Help says, “A minimum 7 Mbps connection speed is recommended for HD streaming” on TV. This is a general recommendation, not a guarantee against interruptions or a diagnosis of any particular ACT plan. A speed test result also cannot, by itself, rule out intermittent Wi-Fi or connection problems.

ACT publishes figures of 2.2 Mbps at 720p/60 fps, 3 Mbps at 1080p/60 fps, 9 Mbps at 1440p/60 fps, 13 Mbps at 4K/30 fps, and 20 Mbps at 4K/60 fps. Those figures are for a broadcaster sending a live stream, not the download speed a viewer needs to watch one; do not use them as viewer thresholds.
Restart and update the viewing setup
- Restart the router and the device you use to watch.
- Update the YouTube app or web browser, then check for available device software updates.
- Play the same stream again under the same connection conditions and note whether the symptom changes.
Restarting and updating are among ACT’s buffering suggestions. If the problem remains isolated to one device, continue with that device’s app, browser, or network settings rather than assuming the broadband line is at fault.

What these tests can and cannot say about packet loss
Wi-Fi-versus-Ethernet and device-versus-device comparisons help identify where to investigate, but they are not direct measurements of packet loss. A stream that buffers or disconnects can have several possible causes, including local Wi-Fi conditions, competing traffic, a device or app issue, or a broader connection problem.
The available guidance does not establish a current ACT outage for your location, identify your router model, or measure your connection’s packet loss. If several devices or services have trouble, give ACT the times observed, devices tested, whether Ethernet differed from Wi-Fi, and whether other services also failed. Ask the provider to investigate the connection; avoid presenting an unverified packet-loss diagnosis as fact.
