1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThere is no evidence-based universal winner: an ARM cloud instance is not automatically cheaper to run, and an x86 VPS is not automatically faster enough to justify a higher bill. Compare the full monthly cost—including outbound data—and test whether the specific server can sustain your exact stream settings for 24 hours a day. A published AWS Lightsail entry plan is a useful price example, but it does not establish an ARM-versus-x86 result or prove the plan can encode your stream.
What determines the cost of a 24/7 YouTube stream?
Your monthly bill depends on more than the advertised server price. For a stream that runs continuously, compare the instance charge, storage and IP costs, outbound transfer allowance and overage, and any backups or taxes that apply in your region. Then check whether the instance can encode the video at the settings you need without falling behind.
The workload matters. A server that only relays an already-encoded video has a different CPU requirement from one that encodes video in real time. Specify the resolution, frame rate, codec, bitrate, and encoder settings before comparing plans. Also compare equivalent regions and billing terms: included transfer on one plan is not equivalent to unmetered or separately billed transfer on another.
Estimate the monthly outbound transfer
For a constant bitrate, approximate decimal gigabytes transferred over a 30-day month as:

Bitrate in Mbps × 32,400 ≈ GB per 30 days
This conversion assumes 24 hours per day for 30 days and does not include audio or protocol overhead. At 10 Mbps, that is about 324 GB; at 17 Mbps, about 551 GB. These are estimates calculated from the stated assumptions, not provider-published usage figures. Actual billing can differ because of overhead, other traffic, and the provider’s measurement rules.
For a single stream, those illustrative amounts are below a 1 TB allowance, but that does not guarantee the allowance will cover your use. Check the plan’s current regional terms, any other server traffic, and the overage rate before relying on the estimate.
What YouTube’s ingest settings mean for your server
YouTube’s official guidance supports RTMP or RTMPS ingest and lists H.264, H.265 (HEVC), and AV1 video codecs. It specifies constant bitrate (CBR), supports up to 60 fps, and recommends a two-second keyframe interval that should not exceed four seconds. Follow the recommendations for your chosen codec and stream settings, and confirm that your encoder and YouTube configuration agree.

For H.264, YouTube recommends 10 Mbps at 1080p30 and 17 Mbps at 1080p60. YouTube Help explains that it transcodes an ingested live stream into multiple output formats for viewers on different devices and networks. That downstream transcoding does not remove the need for your encoder to produce a stable stream at the settings you select.

ARM cloud instance versus x86 VPS: compare equivalent plans
Architecture alone does not tell you what a 24/7 stream will cost or whether it will run reliably. Compare the actual plan, software stack, and sustained workload rather than treating vCPU counts or the labels “ARM” and “x86” as equivalent performance measures.

| Comparison factor | What to verify |
|---|---|
| Monthly cost | Instance, storage, public IP if billed separately, transfer overage, backups, and applicable taxes. |
| Encoding capacity | Whether the server can sustain the target resolution, frame rate, codec, bitrate, and encoder settings. A vCPU count alone does not establish equivalent performance. |
| Network and transfer | Included outbound transfer, overage charges, network or port limits, and the region where the instance runs. |
| Hardware acceleration | Whether the chosen plan exposes usable hardware encoding, and whether the operating system and encoder software support it. Do not assume hardware acceleration is available. |
| Compatibility | Availability of the required operating-system image, encoder packages, codec implementation, and architecture support. |
| Operations and recovery | Monitoring, process supervision, restart behavior, update strategy, and a recovery plan for an interrupted process or connection. |
A fair performance comparison requires the same stream settings and a sustained test on each candidate plan. The gathered official sources do not provide an ARM-versus-x86 benchmark or architecture-specific uptime measurements, so they cannot support a quantified performance or reliability advantage for either architecture.
What the AWS Lightsail price example does—and does not—show
AWS’s Lightsail documentation lists a public IPv4 Linux bundle at $5 per month with 2 vCPUs, 0.5 GB of memory, 20 GB of storage, and 1 TB of data transfer. AWS’s pricing page also lists an entry public IPv4 Linux plan at $5 per month. These are AWS-published figures accessed on October 4, 2026; pricing and plan terms can change, so confirm the current listing and region before budgeting.
This is a base-price illustration, not a like-for-like architecture comparison. The cited bundle listing does not identify the plan as an ARM SKU, and its published specifications do not prove that it can sustainably encode a particular video stream. AWS says Lightsail includes a transfer allowance and charges for outbound transfer after the applicable monthly allowance is exceeded; check the current bundle and regional terms rather than assuming that the allowance or overage is identical everywhere.

AWS advises considering EC2 when an application needs highly configurable instances and consistently high CPU performance, including video encoding. That guidance does not establish that every x86 VPS outperforms every ARM instance, or that EC2 is necessary for every continuous stream. See AWS’s Lightsail pricing, Lightsail instance bundles, Lightsail instances FAQ, and Lightsail data transfer documentation for the provider’s current product and billing details.
How to choose and validate a plan
- Define the workload. Record whether you will encode or relay, plus resolution, frame rate, codec, bitrate, and target hours online.
- Estimate egress. Use bitrate × 32,400 for a rough 30-day decimal-GB estimate, then account for audio, protocol overhead, other traffic, and the provider’s billing convention.
- Find comparable plans. Match region, storage, public IP treatment, outbound allowance, overage policy, and billing period. Confirm each plan’s CPU architecture and available operating-system image.
- Check compatibility and acceleration. Verify that the encoder and codec work on the selected architecture, and confirm actual access to any hardware encoder rather than inferring it from a product description.
- Run a sustained test with the intended settings. Monitor whether encoding stays current and whether the server maintains the outbound connection. Do not infer continuous capacity from a short run or a vCPU count.
- Plan for interruptions. Configure monitoring and process supervision, decide how the encoder restarts, and test recovery after a process or network interruption. The available sources do not establish uptime differences between ARM and x86 hosts.
- Recheck the bill and terms. Include the instance, storage, IP, transfer overage, backups, and taxes that apply to your account and region. Recheck prices and allowances before committing to a long billing period.
Copyright and YouTube channel considerations
Compute price is only one part of running a continuous stream. You must have the rights needed for the video, music, and other material you broadcast, and you should ensure that a continuous or prerecorded stream complies with YouTube’s applicable policies. A successful server test does not establish that content is cleared for broadcast or eligible under YouTube’s monetization rules.
Review YouTube’s current copyright guidance and channel monetization policies before scheduling a stream. Rules and enforcement can depend on the content and circumstances; do not treat permission to use a hosting plan as permission to rebroadcast material.
