Yes—channels accepted into the YouTube Partner Program (YPP) can enable monetization on eligible live streams and choose automatic, scheduled, or manual mid-roll ads. But YouTube does not guarantee that an ad slot will serve an ad, and it does not give blanket advance approval to every 24/7 setup.
Eligibility, ad delivery, content and rights compliance, and whether a replay is archived are separate issues. In particular, streams longer than 12 hours may not be archived, and YouTube excludes live streams that are not archived from qualified public watch hours.
What YouTube Allows for Live-Stream Ads
For an eligible live stream with monetization enabled, YouTube says pre-roll and display ads are automatically enabled. Creators can also use automatic or manual mid-rolls, or schedule breaks at 6, 12, 18, 24, or 30 minute intervals. Automatic mid-rolls can be shown at natural breakpoints, with low, medium, or high frequency settings.
Ad slots are not guaranteed to serve ads, and an individual viewer may not see one. Automatic mid-rolls may be paused for some member interactions or snoozed during high-engagement moments. Creators can delay automatic mid-rolls for 10 minutes, but that delay does not defer manually placed mid-rolls. YouTube says scheduled and manual settings may have lower earning potential than automatic mode.

YouTube reported that creators who chose live automatic mid-rolls saw, on average, over 20% uplift in instream ad revenue per hour. This was YouTube’s aggregate comparison across 207 countries in January 2024, not a promised result for any particular channel or stream.

YPP Eligibility and Monetization
To earn Watch Page advertising and YouTube Premium revenue from live-stream videos, a creator must be in YPP and accept the Watch Page Monetization Module. YouTube’s listed ad-revenue threshold is 1,000 subscribers and either 4,000 qualified public watch hours over the last 365 days or 10 million qualified Shorts views over 90 days. Geographic availability, channel review, contract modules, and advertiser-friendly content rules also apply; check YouTube Studio for current requirements.
Fan-funding features such as channel memberships, Super Chat, and Super Stickers are separate from ad revenue. Their availability and eligibility requirements vary, and they are not automatic for every channel.

Does a 24/7 Stream Count Toward Watch Hours?
Do not assume that all viewing on a continuous live stream counts toward YPP’s qualified public watch-hour threshold. YouTube says qualified watch hours come from public long-form videos or archived livestreams; live streams that are not archived are excluded.
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived. A stream that exceeds 12 hours may not be captured at all. This is an archive caveat, not a stated universal maximum broadcast duration. If keeping a replay matters, make a local recording as a backup and plan around the possibility that YouTube will not archive the stream.
Content, Rights, and Channel Review
YouTube’s monetization policies apply to live streams as well as long-form videos and Shorts. Reviewers may assess the channel as a whole, including its theme, newest and most-viewed videos, largest sources of watch time, metadata, and About section. A continuous schedule alone does not determine whether a channel complies.

YouTube renamed its “repetitious content” policy to “inauthentic content” on July 15, 2025, clarifying that repetitive or mass-produced material has always been ineligible. Generic, interchangeable, manipulative, or mass-produced content can put channel monetization at risk. Reused material needs significant original commentary, substantive modification, or educational or entertainment value.
Advertiser suitability applies to the stream and its title, thumbnail, description, and tags. Content outside advertiser-friendly guidelines may receive limited or no ads; context can matter, and YouTube says creators can request human review of some suitability decisions. Creators must also have the necessary rights to all visual and audio elements they monetize.

How to Set Up Mid-Roll Ads and Plan for a Long Stream
- Confirm that your channel is in YPP, has accepted the Watch Page Monetization Module, and meets applicable content and rights requirements.
- In YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, enable monetization for the stream and choose automatic, scheduled, or manual mid-rolls.
- If you use automatic mid-rolls, consider the delay control for important moments. Remember that it does not delay manually placed mid-rolls.
- If your stream runs longer than 12 hours and you need a replay, make a local recording. Do not rely on an unarchived stream to meet qualified public watch-hour requirements.
- Keep content original, rights-cleared, and advertiser-appropriate, and review your channel as a whole rather than treating a 24/7 schedule as a policy exception.
