You can run a 24/7 YouTube stream without buying a dedicated server by sending video from an existing computer with encoder software or using a hosted cloud playout service. YouTube is the destination, not the source: an encoder or service must keep sending media, and the stream still depends on that source, its network connection, and its reliability. For news, choose between a prerecorded playlist and a live feed, and clear the rights to every clip, audio track, and feed you use.
Choose how to send video to YouTube
YouTube encoders convert video to a streamable digital format and send it to YouTube using a server URL and stream key. A dedicated server is not required, but you do need a continuously operating source.

YouTube’s verified encoder list identifies Gyre as a cloud-based tool for 24/7 streaming of prerecorded video without a dedicated PC. It also lists AWS Elemental MediaLive for broadcast-grade live video processing. These options serve different workflows; check current service scope and pricing before choosing. YouTube’s API documentation describes broadcasts without a scheduled end time as indefinite, but that setting does not keep an encoder, service, source feed, or internet connection healthy.
Check your channel before setup
Before configuring an encoder or hosted service, confirm that your YouTube channel can livestream. YouTube says the channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. First-time live-stream activation may take up to 24 hours, and YouTube states that a livestreamer must be at least 16 years old.

- Sign in to the YouTube account that manages the channel.
- Open YouTube Studio and choose Create, then Go live.
- Complete any verification or activation steps YouTube presents and wait for activation if required.
- Confirm that the channel meets YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility requirements before scheduling a broadcast.
Configure an encoder or cloud playout service
The exact controls vary by encoder and provider. In YouTube Studio, obtain the stream settings, including the server URL and stream key, then enter them in your chosen encoder or service. Treat the stream key as a secret: anyone who has it may be able to send a broadcast to your channel.
- Decide whether the program is a live feed or a prerecorded playlist. A prerecorded-video service is not a substitute for a live newsroom source.
- In YouTube Studio, open the stream setup and copy the server URL and stream key from the stream settings.
- Enter those settings in the encoder or hosted provider according to its instructions.
- Start with a test transmission and check the YouTube viewing page for video and audio before relying on the workflow.
- Protect the stream key, and replace it if it is exposed or you suspect unauthorized use.
YouTube’s setup instructions describe configuring the encoder with the stream server URL and stream key. Do not assume that a service will automatically create and configure every YouTube Live event in the same way; follow the controls and instructions for the specific workflow you select.

Plan for outages and archives
No configuration guarantees an uninterrupted feed. With a local encoder, a computer failure, power loss, or internet outage can interrupt transmission. With cloud playout, the provider runs the continuous playout, but service problems or an unavailable upstream live source can still affect delivery. Check the stream regularly and decide in advance who will respond if it stops.
YouTube automatically archives streams that are under 12 hours. Do not promise that a single continuous stream lasting longer than that will be preserved as a complete replay. If viewers need a full archive, plan to preserve source files separately or publish shorter events or segments.

Plan the news content and rights
A playlist of prerecorded recaps and a live newsroom feed are different editorial products. Cloud playout can keep entitled prerecorded videos in rotation, but it does not produce new reporting, update the playlist, or supply a live newsroom feed. For either approach, confirm that you have permission to use each news clip, video feed, and music track. The ability to stream material on YouTube does not grant rights to third-party content.
YouTube requires live-stream content to comply with its Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. Review those rules alongside the rights and permissions for the material in your program.

Can I stream 24/7 without a dedicated server?
Yes. You can use encoder software on an existing computer or choose a hosted cloud playout service. Either way, a source still has to send media to YouTube continuously.
Does YouTube host the video source for a 24/7 stream?
YouTube is the broadcast destination. An encoder, hosted service, or custom production system supplies the incoming media stream.

Can a cloud playout service provide a live newsroom feed?
A service described for prerecorded video can play a loop or playlist, but that does not make it a live newsroom source. Confirm that a provider supports the actual live-feed workflow you need.
Will YouTube save the entire 24/7 stream as a replay?
YouTube automatically archives streams under 12 hours. Plan separately for preserving longer programming or publishing shorter segments if a complete replay matters.
Do I need to clear rights for news clips and music?
Yes. YouTube’s streaming setup does not establish that you have rights to third-party footage, audio, clips, or feeds. Clear the material you use and follow YouTube’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service.
