Short answer: XSplit Broadcaster’s current pricing comparison and FAQ do not state a maximum continuous-stream duration for either Free or Premium. That does not prove unlimited runtime, and the available information does not show that Premium is required to keep one YouTube stream running continuously. YouTube has a separate concern: a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured in its archive.
What XSplit’s license pages do—and do not—say
XSplit’s Free and Premium comparison describes resolution, watermark, scene-count and usage-right differences, but does not list a maximum streaming-session length. Its Broadcaster FAQ likewise does not publish a continuous-stream cap. Treat that as “no duration limit stated in these materials,” not as a guarantee that a stream can run forever.
XSplit describes Broadcaster as Windows software for live streaming and recording, with platform plugins and Custom RTMP output. Premium supports simultaneous streaming to multiple services, but that feature does not establish a maximum run time for a single output. See XSplit Broadcaster.
Does Free or Premium make more sense for a long stream?
Choose between the tiers based on the published production features and usage rights—not on an assumed duration cap. The comparison lists Free at $0; Premium prices and feature availability can change, so check XSplit’s current page before buying.

| License detail | Free | Premium |
|---|---|---|
| Streaming resolution and watermark | Streaming up to 720p without a watermark; higher resolution and some frame-rate use can add a watermark. | Unrestricted resolution; the comparison describes Premium as removing or expanding several Free restrictions. |
| Scenes | Up to four scenes. | Unlimited scenes. |
| Usage | Personal use only. | Commercial use included. |
| Continuous-stream duration | No maximum stated in the reviewed pricing comparison or FAQ; this is not a guarantee of unlimited runtime. | No maximum stated in the reviewed pricing comparison or FAQ; Premium is not shown as necessary for continuous streaming. |
| Multistreaming | Not stated in the comparison as a Free entitlement. | Premium supports simultaneous streaming to multiple services, according to XSplit’s product page. |
The English pricing page showed Premium at $14.99/month, $59.99/year or $119.99 lifetime when reviewed in 2026; those are changeable prices, not a duration-related requirement. Verify current terms directly with XSplit.
What changes when a YouTube stream passes 12 hours?
YouTube’s 12-hour warning concerns the archive and rewind, not a stated universal point when a live broadcast ends. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. It recommends keeping a local archive backup. Read YouTube’s archive guidance before relying on a long session as your only recording.

Separately, YouTube says DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. That is a viewer playback limitation, distinct from XSplit’s license terms and from whether the live output continues. Details are in YouTube’s DVR guidance.
For a 24-hour broadcast
- Do not rely on YouTube’s automatic archive to preserve a session longer than 12 hours; record locally if you need a copy.
- Check that the local recording is being written and that you have enough disk capacity for the full session.
- Decide whether viewers need rewind access; DVR may not work as expected on a stream longer than 12 hours.
- Plan for encoder, computer and internet interruptions separately from license terms.
Prepare and monitor the encoder
Long-session reliability depends on the computer, encoder and network as well as the license. YouTube’s current H.264 guidance recommends 5 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps and 6 Mbps for 720p at 30 fps. These are YouTube ingestion recommendations, not XSplit license conditions. Confirm the current values and other settings in YouTube’s encoder settings guide.

- Test the stream before the planned start and monitor YouTube’s stream-health indicators while live.
- Keep upload bandwidth comfortably above the selected video bitrate so other network use or fluctuations do not consume all available capacity.
- Use RTMPS where available and check YouTube’s streaming tips for current operating guidance.
- For a local backup, confirm the recording file is growing and that the recording drive has room for the planned duration.
Troubleshoot a stream that will not stay live
| Symptom | Likely area to check | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| The broadcast stops or drops before the planned end. | Encoder, computer or network stability; the reviewed XSplit license pages do not establish that a duration cap caused it. | Check XSplit and YouTube status or error messages, network stability, available upload bandwidth and computer load. Test again and monitor stream health. |
| YouTube does not create a full archive. | Session exceeded 12 hours. | Use a local recording as the preservation copy; YouTube warns that a stream over 12 hours may not be captured. |
| Viewers cannot rewind far enough. | YouTube DVR behavior on a stream longer than 12 hours. | Tell viewers rewind may be limited or unavailable, and consider publishing a separate recording if they need replay. |
| The output has a watermark or the desired resolution is unavailable. | Free-tier resolution and frame-rate restrictions. | Compare the desired output with XSplit’s current Free/Premium terms; do not upgrade on the assumption that Premium removes a duration limit. |
| The local backup is missing or incomplete. | Recording was not enabled, storage filled, or the recording process failed. | Before the next long session, verify the destination, available capacity and that the file continues growing during a test. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If the aim is to keep uploaded video looping on a YouTube channel, StreamNeo is a cloud alternative: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It runs without leaving a home computer on, streams the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card; Monthly is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo plays uploaded videos rather than broadcasting a camera feed. Learn more at StreamNeo, or start the free day.
