The Redmi Turbo 5 and the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max 5G cannot be ranked overall on the evidence available in early October 2026. On Xiaomi’s published specifications, the Note 17 Pro Max 5G has the larger screen (6.83 inches against 6.59 inches) and the larger battery (9,210 mAh against 7,540 mAh). The Turbo 5 is presented around performance, with a MediaTek Dimensity 8500 Ultra. Both are listed with 100 W wired charging. A price difference cannot be calculated yet: the only prices available are Indian launch prices for the Turbo 5, and no comparable price for the Note 17 Pro Max was found.
Specifications side by side
The two phones’ figures come from different sources, and that matters. The Turbo 5 numbers are India-market information, reproduced in a Xiaomi Community post dated 2026-06-18 that cites Redmi India and Gadgets360. The Note 17 Pro Max numbers come from Xiaomi’s global product page. Treat the table as a directional comparison, not a single-market spec sheet.

Check the regional variant first
Xiaomi publishes a separate India specifications page for the Note 17 Pro Max 5G, with display details and an in-box package list. Its values were not reproduced in the sources reviewed, so the global figures above cannot be confirmed for India. If you are buying in India, check that page before assuming the 6.83-inch screen and 9,210 mAh battery apply to the unit you would buy. The same applies to the Turbo 5: confirm the exact model and storage configuration on the current local product or seller page, since the figures above are reproduced launch information.

The two phones use different chipset platforms. The Turbo 5’s Dimensity 8500 Ultra and the Note 17 Pro Max’s Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 are stated product specifications. No matched independent benchmark, sustained-performance test or gaming test for these two phones was found, so this comparison cannot say which is faster in daily use or under load. If performance is the deciding factor, look for independent tests of each exact variant, run on the same day and with the same software version, before drawing a conclusion.

Battery and charging
The Note 17 Pro Max 5G has a battery rated at 9,210 mAh, about 1,670 mAh more than the Turbo 5’s 7,540 mAh. Both are listed with 100 W wired charging. Those figures establish capacity and rated charging power only. They do not establish battery life, screen-on time, or how long either phone takes to charge from a given level, because those depend on the power management, software and display workload, none of which was tested in the sources reviewed. A larger capacity is a reasonable expectation for longer use, but not a measured result.
Display
The Note 17 Pro Max’s screen is 0.24 inches larger. Screen resolution, refresh rate and brightness are not stated for either model in the sources reviewed, so the size gap is the only display difference this comparison can document. Choose on size only if you know you prefer the larger panel; the resolution and panel quality will decide how the screens actually look.

Durability
Xiaomi India’s listing for the Turbo 5 promotes IP66, IP68, IP69 and IP69K resistance ratings. IP66 covers dust-tightness and protection against strong water jets, IP68 covers submersion beyond 1 metre under the manufacturer’s stated conditions, and IP69 and IP69K cover high-pressure and high-temperature water jets. These are manufacturer claims. For the Note 17 Pro Max 5G, Xiaomi’s global page describes resistance and drop-protection claims, but the specific ratings were not stated in the sources reviewed. Neither claim should be read as protection against every type of damage.

The price difference: what is known and what is not
For India, the Xiaomi Community post reproduces launch prices of ₹37,999 for the 8GB/256GB Turbo 5 and ₹40,999 for the 12GB/256GB version. These are launch figures, not current selling prices. No Note 17 Pro Max 5G price for the same market, storage configuration and date was found, so a difference cannot be calculated. To work one out yourself:

- Choose one country and use only that market’s listings for both phones.
- Match RAM and storage. Confirm which configurations the Note 17 Pro Max 5G is sold in locally, and compare against the Turbo 5’s 8GB/256GB or 12GB/256GB options.
- Record both prices on the same day, including bank offers, coupons and exchange deals, and note which figure is the list price and which is the effective price.
- Subtract the matched prices, then add or deduct the warranty terms and any bundled accessories for each seller.
Which one to choose
- Choose the Turbo 5 if the sources’ performance positioning matters most to you and you have confirmed the independent test results for the exact variant you plan to buy.
- Choose the Note 17 Pro Max 5G if you want the larger screen and higher battery capacity, and you have confirmed those figures on the India or local specifications page.
- Choose on price only after you have a matched same-day price for both phones in your market.
On published specifications alone, the Note 17 Pro Max 5G leads on screen size and battery capacity, and the Turbo 5 is the phone the sources present as performance-led. Neither has been shown to be better overall.
