Both Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S play Gears of War: Reloaded; you do not need a Series X to play it. Choose Series X if native 4K console capability or a disc drive matters most. Choose Series S if you want a digital-only console designed for 1440p gaming. Xbox publishes game-wide targets of 4K, 60 FPS in Campaign and 120 FPS in Multiplayer, but does not say how those targets differ between the two consoles.
Does Gears of War: Reloaded run on both Xbox Series X and Series S?
Yes. Xbox lists Gears of War: Reloaded for Xbox Series X|S, and describes it as optimized for those consoles. It launched on August 26, 2025. Xbox’s game listing has current platform and feature information.
What performance should you expect?
In its May 5, 2025 announcement, Xbox Wire set game-wide targets of 4K resolution, 60 frames per second (FPS) in Campaign, and 120 FPS in Multiplayer. Those figures are not a Series X-versus-Series S benchmark: the announcement does not assign separate resolution or frame-rate results to each model. Nor does the stated 4K target establish that either console renders the game at native 4K in every mode.
Xbox describes Series X as capable of native 4K gaming, while Series S is designed for 1440p with the ability to upscale to 4K. These are console-level descriptions, not confirmed output measurements for Reloaded. Actual resolution, HDR, and high-frame-rate benefits also depend on supported game content and a compatible display. Xbox Wire’s announcement and the Xbox store listing provide the published game details.

Series X vs. Series S for Gears of War
| What matters to you | Better fit | What the published information establishes |
|---|---|---|
| Native 4K console capability | Series X | Xbox positions Series X for native 4K gaming. The sources do not state a Gears-specific Series S resolution. |
| Digital-only gaming and a 1440p design target | Series S | Series S has no optical drive and is designed for 1440p gaming with upscale-to-4K capability. |
| Playing from physical discs | Series X with UHD Blu-ray drive | Series S has no optical drive. Xbox also lists an all-digital Series X configuration, so check the exact model before buying. |
| More internal storage | Depends on configuration | Xbox lists Series X in 1TB and 2TB configurations and Series S in 512GB and 1TB configurations. Availability varies by market. |
| Proven Gears-specific performance advantage | No established winner | Xbox publishes game-wide targets, not a model-by-model performance comparison. |
Xbox lists the consoles at 12 teraflops for Series X and 4 teraflops for Series S. Those are console specification figures, not measurements of how Reloaded performs. For full console configurations, see Xbox’s console comparison.
Which console should you choose?
Choose Series X if you want 4K capability or discs
Series X is the stronger fit if you want Xbox’s native 4K console capability, use UHD Blu-ray or physical game discs, or prefer the option of 2TB internal storage. Confirm that the specific Series X listing includes the disc drive if you need one; the all-digital configuration does not meet that requirement.
