A reported leak puts Microsoft’s next-generation Xbox, Project Helix, at 56 TFLOPS and Sony’s PS6 at 40 TFLOPS. Those are estimates attributed to hardware leaker KeplerL2—not confirmed specifications—and the 16-TFLOPS gap does not establish that Helix will be faster in games.
What does the Xbox Helix leak say?
VideoCardz reported on September 23, 2026, that KeplerL2 had estimated GPU compute at 56 TFLOPS for the next Xbox and 40 TFLOPS for the PS6. The report traces the claims to a NeoGAF discussion and labels the story a rumor. Read the VideoCardz report.

VideoCardz also relayed KeplerL2’s claim that both chips had taped out. That, too, remains a claim passed through a leaker and a news report; Microsoft, Sony, and AMD have not confirmed it in the sources available here.
Are 56 TFLOPS and 40 TFLOPS official specifications?
No. The 56-TFLOPS Helix estimate and 40-TFLOPS PS6 estimate are not manufacturer-confirmed figures. Microsoft has announced Project Helix and a custom AMD SoC partnership, and its stated direction includes compatibility with console and PC games. That announcement does not confirm the leaked compute estimate. Tom’s Hardware’s March 11, 2026 coverage of the announcement.

The reviewed reporting does not establish the final GPU designs, either console’s confirmed specifications or release timing, Helix’s memory configuration, or how the consoles will perform in shipping games. Sony has not confirmed the PS6 figure in the cited material.
How large is the rumored compute gap?
| Claim or comparison | Figure | What it represents |
|---|---|---|
| Project Helix GPU compute | 56 TFLOPS | KeplerL2 estimate reported by VideoCardz in 2026; unconfirmed. |
| PS6 GPU compute | 40 TFLOPS | KeplerL2 estimate reported by VideoCardz in 2026; unconfirmed. |
| Difference between estimates | 16 TFLOPS | Arithmetic difference between the two leaked figures. |
| Helix estimate relative to PS6 estimate | 40% higher | Calculation using 56 and 40; not a measured gaming-performance advantage. |
TFLOPS means tera floating-point operations per second, a measure of theoretical compute throughput. Even if both estimates prove accurate and use a comparable counting method, the figures alone cannot show how fast games will run or how they will look. As VideoCardz put it, “TFLOPS measure raw compute performance, so this does not mean Xbox will be 40% faster in games.”

Why TFLOPS alone cannot tell you which console is stronger
Game performance depends on more than a headline compute figure. The report points to architecture and feature hardware—including ray tracing and AI-related capabilities—along with upscaling and how developers use the hardware. Other meaningful comparisons, once reliable specifications or tests exist, include memory capacity and bandwidth, CPU performance, and power and thermal limits.
Ultimately, comparisons in actual games matter: frame rates, image quality, and consistency across titles can show how hardware and software work together. The available sources provide no named independent benchmark of the alleged Helix or PS6 hardware, so they cannot support a ranking of the two consoles’ gaming performance.

How does this compare with current-generation figures?
For historical context, the UK Competition and Markets Authority’s 2023 provisional findings listed Xbox Series X at 12 TFLOPS and PlayStation 5 at 10.3 TFLOPS. The CMA explained TFLOPS as tera floating-point operations per second. These are figures for current-generation consoles, not evidence for the Helix or PS6 estimates.
