Wyrmhole is a desktop app for sending files directly between people using a code to pair sender and recipient. It is built on the Rust implementation of the Magic Wormhole protocol, and its project describes transfers as PAKE-secured and end-to-end encrypted. The project lists Windows, macOS, and Linux support.
What Wyrmhole does
Wyrmhole gives Magic Wormhole file transfers a graphical interface. Its README describes a live progress view, transfer history, a configurable download location, custom relay URL settings, and options for packaging folders as tarballs and handling received archives. These are project-published features, not independently verified compatibility claims. See the Wyrmhole README and official project website.
How to send and receive files
The project documents a code-based pairing flow. The sender chooses files or folders and starts the transfer; Wyrmhole generates a code to share with the recipient. The recipient enters that code, reviews the offered transfer, and accepts it.

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minute- Sender: Select the files or folders in Wyrmhole and start sending.
- Sender: Share the generated code with the intended recipient.
- Recipient: Enter the code, review the offer, and accept the transfer.
- Recipient: Find the received files in the configured download directory; the application also records transfers in its history.
The project says folder sends can be packaged as tarballs automatically and that transfers show live progress. Archive handling and extraction are application-level features; they should not be mistaken for native directory transfer in the underlying protocol.

What “secure” means here
The Wyrmhole README characterizes transfers as PAKE-secured and end-to-end encrypted over Magic Wormhole. This describes the project’s stated design; the materials cited here do not establish an independent security audit or prove that every transfer follows a direct network path. The README also says users can configure a custom relay server URL.
Magic Wormhole uses mailbox and transit-relay protocols. Its ecosystem documentation says both peers must use the same mailbox server to communicate, even when the data connection itself is direct rather than relayed. A relay may therefore be part of the connection process; “peer-to-peer” does not mean that no service participates. Read the Magic Wormhole ecosystem documentation, whose implementation overview says it reflects the authors’ best knowledge as of April 2025.

- 【Important】: Default format of the usb flash drive 128gb is exFAT as this is the format recognized by the smartphones and tablets. These 128gb thumb drives are only compatible with C-Port enabled mobile phones & computers only. While formatting the usb flash drive dual type c usb 3.0 OTG keep a check on the drive format
- 【Easy to Use】: Directly plug the 2-in-1 USB flash drive and play, no need to install any software. The jump drive is easy to be recognized by computer, laptop, notebook, PC, car audio, speaker, smart TV, vidoe projector etc
- 【Fast Speed】: High-speed USB 3.0 flash drive for fast data transfer, backwards compatible with USB 2.0 easy to complete the storage and transport functions. USB 3.0 and Class A chip help you transfer a 4G movie from the thumb drive to your smartphone in about 40 seconds, and reverse transfer in 2 mins to save memory for your smartphone with Type C port.Save your time
- 【Good Compatibility】: Dual connectors USB type C + USB 3.0. Support windows 7 / 8 / 10 / XP / 2000 / ME / NT Linux and Mac OS, compatible withUSB 3.0 & USB 2.0 backwards USB1.1. Support videos formats: AVI, M4V, MKV, MOV, M P4, MPG, RM, RMVB, TS, WMV, FLV, 3GP; AUDIOS: FLAC, APE, AAC, AIF, M4A, MP3, WAV
- 【OTG Function】:Support nearly all mobile phones which support OTG function, and very easy to operate
Protocol limitations versus Wyrmhole features
The ecosystem overview rates the Rust implementation’s core support as full, reconnect as partial, file-transfer v1 as partial, Dilation as proof-of-concept, and dilated transfer as unsupported. It also says Rust file-transfer v1 does not support text messages or directory transfer as protocol features. The implementation can produce a tarball, but the other side does not automatically unpack it at the protocol level.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Wyrmhole’s own folder packaging and archive-handling options sit above that protocol behavior. Consequently, a convenient folder workflow in the GUI is not evidence that the underlying protocol has native directory-transfer support. The ecosystem overview is dated April 2025, not a live test of current releases.

Platforms and building from source
The project website lists Windows, macOS, and Linux. This is the project’s stated platform availability, not independent verification for every operating-system version or device.
For building from source, the README specifies stable Rust, Node.js 18 or later, and the Tauri prerequisites for the target platform. It describes a React frontend with a Rust/Tauri backend. Consult the repository README for the project’s build details.

Features and roadmap status
The README also lists transfer-history metadata with JSON export, custom relay configuration, download-directory settings, tarball auto-extraction, and folder-naming settings. These are distinct from roadmap items: multi-recipient sending is described as experimental upstream work, while system-level dark mode appears on the roadmap. Neither should be treated as a stable, guaranteed feature based on those descriptions.
