WordPress.com’s October 2, 2026 changelog adds two ways to manage a site with AI: the WordPress Agent can activate, update, and install plugins from chat, and a WordPress.com plugin in Cursor’s marketplace lets users manage a site from that AI agent. The update, which covers September 15 through October 1, also includes Reader improvements, plan-based hosting logs, and two WordPress security releases.
AI tools can manage plugins and WordPress.com sites
Use the WordPress Agent to act on plugins
WordPress.com Staff says users can ask the WordPress Agent to activate, update, and install plugins directly from chat. The changelog does not specify permission requirements, confirmation steps, supported plugin types, or other technical limits, so those details should not be assumed.
Manage a site from Cursor
WordPress.com says its plugin is now available in Cursor’s marketplace, allowing users to manage a WordPress.com site from Cursor’s AI agent. The entry does not provide setup instructions or explain the Grok Bot integration mentioned in its heading.
Reader makes unread posts easier to spot
For people who use Reader to follow blogs, sites, and news sources, posts already read now dim automatically, and an unread count appears beside Recent. The changelog says the behavior can be turned off in Reader preferences.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Hosting logs depend on the plan
WordPress.com’s changelog distinguishes basic logs from more detailed operational logs by plan:
| Plan | Logs listed in the changelog | Where to find them |
|---|---|---|
| Personal and Premium | PHP error logs and web server logs | Hosting Dashboard > site > Logs |
| Business and Commerce | More detailed logs for monitoring, performance, and deployments | Not stated in the changelog |
WordPress.com says two security releases are deployed
The changelog names WordPress 7.1.1 and 7.1.2 as security releases and says WordPress.com sites are already updated. It does not identify the vulnerabilities or state their severity; this is WordPress.com’s account of its updates, not an independent security audit.

Other fixes and additions
The September 15–October 1 update also lists fixes and smaller changes across the service:

- Long domain names no longer get clipped in the DNS list.
- A fix for the WordPress Agent account-connections screen.
- Editor improvements, including grid layout for media options and faster list indenting with the Tab key.
- A fix for long conversations in the Help Center.
- Daily writing prompts now allow text above the opening quote.
- The .es domain extension is now available to purchase.
What the changelog establishes
The October 2, 2026 entry is an announcement of feature availability and fixes, not a report of measured adoption or productivity gains. It gives no usage statistics, and it does not explain how to configure the Cursor connection or the technical boundaries of the Agent’s plugin actions. For those details, the entry itself is the limit of what WordPress.com has stated.
