The Withings Sleep Analyzer is a powered sensor mat that sits under your mattress and tracks sleep without requiring you to wear a watch or ring. It can report sleep timing and stages, heart-rate and snoring information in the Withings app; apnea detection is a separate feature whose availability and regulatory status depend on your country and exact model. It is best suited to people who want low-effort, overnight tracking and have a compatible bed with a nearby outlet—not anyone seeking a diagnosis or a substitute for a sleep study.
What the Withings Sleep Analyzer tracks
The sensor is installed under the mattress, plugged into power, and connected to the Withings app over Wi-Fi after setup with a compatible smartphone. You do not wear it overnight. Withings lists sleep duration, sleep onset and wake time, deep/light/REM stages, interruptions, time to fall asleep, continuous and average heart rate, snoring duration, and a Sleep Score. The 2023 product guide distinguishes these sleep-tracking parameters from its Sleep Apnea Detector software, which it identifies as a medical device in non-US regions. Withings’ UK product page and its product guide describe the product and its functions.
For the UK listing, Withings says data storage is free and unlimited online with a Withings account, with data stored locally between syncs. That statement does not establish broader retention, privacy, or deletion terms; consult the current terms and regional app information for those details.

Before choosing the Analyzer, check the bed type, the sensor’s placement, and the location of a power outlet. The product guide excludes waterbeds, air beds, and mechanically articulated mattresses. It also says not to interpret recordings when someone other than the main user lies on the mat. Follow the latest instructions supplied for your model and country.

- SNORING DETECTION - Sleep can automatically detect any snoring episodes, which can lead to sleep disturbances.
- ANALYZE YOUR CARDIOVASCULAR HEALTH - Every time your heart beats, it propels a mechanical wave through your body, systematically measured with great precision by the pneumatic sensor.
Position the sensor correctly
- Place the mat sideways under the mattress at chest or heart level, in the area where you usually sleep.
- Make sure it contacts both the mattress and the box spring or bed platform. With slats, Withings says a flat, sturdy support such as cardboard can be used.
- Plug the sensor into power. If it has just been connected, Withings advises waiting 10 minutes before getting into bed.
- For apnea results, Withings support recommends sleeping for at least five hours before checking the app in the morning.
These placement and timing instructions come from Withings’ setup guidance. A compatible smartphone is needed for initial setup, but the older guide and current product page give different operating-system requirements. Check the live listing for your region rather than relying on an older minimum version.
Apnea detection is regional and is not a diagnosis
Do not assume every product sold under a Withings sleep-tracking name has the same apnea function. Withings says Sleep and Sleep Analyzer are distinct devices; its support FAQ describes apnea detection as an additional Sleep Analyzer feature and says that in territories where Sleep Analyzer is available, the earlier Sleep product is no longer offered. The product guide describes Sleep Apnea Detector software as a medical device for non-US regions. Check your country and exact model before relying on feature availability or making a claim about regulatory status. Withings support and its product guide provide the relevant distinctions. US-facing Sleep Rx materials describe a different product pathway and should not be taken as evidence that a consumer Sleep Analyzer has the same feature or clearance.

Withings’ guide cautions that interpretations are “potential findings,” not a complete diagnosis of sleep apnea or other sleep-breathing disorders. It says not to take clinical action based on detector output without a qualified health professional. Withings support advises people whose results show signs of apnea to consult a doctor, who can decide what evaluation or treatment is appropriate. The guide also lists arrhythmia, cardiac insufficiency, asthma, and COPD as limitations for use of the apnea detector, and warns against changing medication or treatment without consulting a doctor. These are specific warnings in Withings’ instructions, not a substitute for checking the latest regional guidance or discussing your circumstances with a clinician.
How reliable are the readings?
Think of the app’s readings as useful trends and prompts for discussion, not as precise measurements guaranteed to match a sleep study. In a month of use, Wareable’s reviewer praised the no-wearable setup, generally reliable data in that reviewer’s experience, clear app organization, and detailed snoring and apnea information. The same review reported wake-detection errors, including an hour awake in bed being counted as sleep, and described coaching as basic and not very personalized. These are observations from one reviewer’s experience, not controlled accuracy results for every sleeper or bed. Wareable’s review provides that hands-on context.

Tom’s Guide’s 2026 roundup similarly describes a low-maintenance mat that starts and stops tracking automatically, while noting it may mistake sitting in bed during the day for a nap. It presents the device as a useful option for people who dislike wearables and want information to discuss with a medical professional—not as a universally accurate monitor. Tom’s Guide’s roundup gives its perspective.
Withings says the device has been compared with polysomnography, but the cited product page does not provide study details sufficient to quantify performance here. Neither reviewer impressions nor that unquantified statement establishes that an individual reading is clinically interchangeable with a sleep study.

Who should choose it instead of a wearable?
The main trade-off is between a dedicated, under-mattress sensor and a wearable that can track more than sleep. The Analyzer suits people who do not want to wear or charge a device overnight, prefer automatic bed-based tracking, and have a compatible mattress and accessible outlet. Wareable names Oura Ring and Withings ScanWatch 2 as alternatives, but their current features, subscriptions, and regional availability should be checked before comparing models.

| Consideration | Sleep Analyzer | Ring or watch |
|---|---|---|
| Nighttime wear | Sensor sits under the mattress; nothing is worn. | Must be worn overnight and may need charging; exact requirements vary by model. |
| Tracking scope | Dedicated to sleep and related overnight readings. | May also provide daytime activity or broader biometrics; confirm the current model’s specifications. |
| Bed and power needs | Requires a compatible bed, correct sensor placement, and a nearby outlet. | Does not require a sensor under the mattress; charging needs vary. |
| Apnea feature | Availability and regulatory status depend on country and exact device version. | Do not assume a wearable’s features or regulatory status are equivalent; verify the exact model. |
| Cost or subscription comparison | Current price and subscription terms are not established here; check the regional listing. | Terms vary by model and service; check the current offer before comparing. |
No single form factor is a universal winner. Choose by whether you want sleep-only tracking without wearing a device or a wearable that may cover daytime activity too. Neither the product information nor the cited reviews establish that their readings are clinically interchangeable.

Verdict
The Withings Sleep Analyzer is a sensible option for hands-off, overnight tracking if your bed is compatible and you want to avoid wearing a tracker. Its app provides a broad set of sleep-related readings, but occasional sleep/wake misclassification is possible, and the apnea feature is region-specific and must be treated as a prompt for professional discussion—not a diagnosis. If you need medical assessment, have one of the conditions named in the guide, or want dependable all-day measurements, check with a clinician or consider whether a different tracking format better fits your needs.
