The Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) is an open standards organization that develops wireless power standards, most notably Qi for charging phones and other portable devices. It also runs certification and product-verification processes. WPC is the organization; Qi is one of the standards it develops.
What is the Wireless Power Consortium?
Established in 2008, WPC describes itself as an open standards development group made up of technology companies. Its stated mission is to set global standards for safety, efficiency, and interoperability in wireless power applications. WPC reported more than 300 member companies on its organization page when checked on October 7, 2026. WPC’s organization page
In practical terms, WPC develops specifications and oversees certification programs so products built by different manufacturers can work with the relevant wireless power standard. It is not itself a charger brand.

Qi2 and Qi2 25W
Qi2 is a later development of the Qi standard. WPC’s Qi page says Qi2 25W launched in July 2025. Which charging features or rates a particular phone and charger support depends on their individual specifications; the standard name alone does not establish the rate for every pairing. WPC’s Qi page

What does Qi certification mean?
WPC says products must pass its certification process before they may carry the Qi or Qi2 logo. The process includes compliance testing at an Authorized Test Lab, interoperability testing at an Interoperability Testing Center, and WPC review. WPC says the tests address safety, interoperability, and energy efficiency. WPC’s Testing and Certification page
Certification is not an endorsement, and WPC says it does not guarantee a product’s safety. Manufacturers remain responsible for complying with applicable product-safety requirements. Treat the logo as an indication of certification under WPC’s process, not as a substitute for checking the product or its safety claims.

How can you check whether a product is really Qi Certified?
- Find the exact product identity. Note its manufacturer and model number from the product label or packaging; a family name or seller description may not identify the specific model.
- Search WPC’s Certified Products Database. Look for the manufacturer and model, then confirm that the listing matches the item you intend to buy. Open WPC’s Certified Products Database
- Match the standard and product details. Check that the database entry corresponds to the Qi or Qi2 claim being made and to the correct product type.
- Do not rely on an unsupported listing or logo alone. If the exact product cannot be matched in the database, the seller’s claim is not verified by that lookup.
Does WPC work on anything besides phone charging?
Yes. WPC is also developing Ki, a wireless power standard for cordless kitchen applications. WPC describes this as an emerging area; its knowledge base lists Ki specification v1.0.3 as available to members. That information does not establish that a broad range of Ki consumer products is already available at retail. WPC’s knowledge base
