Microsoft’s February 28, 2023 Windows 11 update added the new Bing experience to taskbar search. The update is identified as KB5022913, for Windows 11 version 22H2, OS build 22621.1344. It connected taskbar search with Bing search, answers, chat and creation; it did not mean that every AI operation ran locally on the PC.
What was the Windows 11 “Moment” update?
“Moment” is a commonly used name for the February 2023 feature update. Microsoft’s official identifiers are more precise: KB5022913, Windows 11 version 22H2, and build 22621.1344. Microsoft announced it on February 28, 2023, and its support record describes it as a preview update for all editions of version 22H2.
Microsoft’s Windows Experience announcement described the update as bringing the new AI-powered Bing and other features to Windows 11. What did Bing on the taskbar do?
The update brought the new Bing experience into Windows taskbar search. Microsoft’s Bing team said the integration offered ways to interact across “search, answers, chat, and creation.” In practical terms, taskbar search became an entry point to Bing’s search and AI experiences; it was not a separate chatbot built into the PC’s hardware.

Microsoft framed the taskbar’s large audience as an opportunity: its Bing team said “over half a billion people” use the search box each month. That figure described potential reach, not the number of people who had adopted the new Bing or used the taskbar integration. Microsoft Bing’s announcement.
How did the 2023 rollout work?
At the time, Microsoft said eligible devices running Windows 11 version 22H2 could check for the new experiences in Windows Update. It expected features delivered through Windows Update to become fully available with the March 2023 monthly security update. These were rollout instructions for 2023, not current upgrade guidance.

- Select Check for updates.
Microsoft also said new apps would arrive through Microsoft Store updates. Availability could therefore depend on the device and the relevant update or app delivery; the announcement did not describe the feature as a universally available local AI capability.

Microsoft’s broader announcement also covered an updated Chat experience, a Phone Link for iOS preview, widgets and accessibility improvements. No. KB5022913 is a historical release for Windows 11 version 22H2, and Microsoft’s release-history page marks the version 22H2 section as end of updates. For present-day Windows support or update instructions, consult Microsoft’s current Windows 11 release information rather than treating the February 2023 rollout steps as current.

The KB’s historical known-issues record also noted that, after installing this or later updates, some third-party interface customization apps—specifically ExplorerPatcher and StartAllBack—could cause Explorer errors or startup problems. That entry documents an issue associated with the release; it does not establish that the issue remains active today.
