If a YouTube Live real estate playlist shows “video unavailable,” the cause may be the recording’s privacy setting, the playlist’s separate privacy setting, or the account trying to view a private recording. A public playlist does not make a private video public. If the archive is missing entirely, the stream may not have been captured—YouTube warns that streams longer than 12 hours may not be archived.
There is no playlist link or account information here to identify one specific cause. Check the recording and playlist separately in YouTube Studio, then confirm which account the viewer is using.
Check the live recording and playlist separately
YouTube controls visibility at both the video and playlist level. A recording can be private even when its playlist is public, so changing the playlist alone will not make that recording generally watchable. YouTube explains the visibility options in its video privacy settings and playlist privacy settings.

Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →- In YouTube Studio, open Content and select the Live tab.
- Find the affected live recording and inspect its visibility. If viewers should be able to access it broadly, change it to Public; if access should be limited to people with the link, choose Unlisted. Save the change.
- Open Content > Playlists and check the playlist’s visibility separately. Change and save it if needed.
- Ask a viewer to open the recording link again. If it is unlisted, send the direct link; unlisted videos generally do not appear in YouTube search or channel video listings, but can appear in a public playlist.
Choose the right visibility setting
| Setting | Who can watch | Is a link enough? | Search and channel listings | Invitations needed? |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Public | Anyone | No special link restriction | Can appear in search and channel listings | No |
| Unlisted | People who have the link | Yes | Generally omitted from search and channel video listings; may appear in a public playlist | No |
| Private | The owner and selected viewers | No; the viewer must also have permission | Not generally available to the public | Yes, for selected viewers |
These are general visibility behaviors described by YouTube; playlist visibility remains a separate setting. Choose Public for broad access, Unlisted for link-based sharing, and Private when access should be restricted.

If the recording is private, verify the viewer’s account
A private video is not accessible to an arbitrary link holder. The invited viewer must sign in to the Google account that was invited and open the specific video link. If they are signed into another account—or are only looking for the recording on the channel homepage—they may be unable to access it. See YouTube’s guidance on private video visibility and sharing.
- Have the owner confirm that the viewer’s current account is the one invited to the video.
- Ask the viewer to switch to that account, then open the direct recording link.
- If the viewer should not need an invitation, the owner can change the recording to Unlisted or Public, as appropriate.
Consider the older unlisted-video change
If the recording was uploaded as unlisted before January 1, 2017, it may have been affected by YouTube’s older-content update. YouTube says that beginning July 23, 2021, it made unlisted videos uploaded before that cutoff private unless their owners opted out; the change also applied to some older unlisted playlists. This is one possible explanation for an older item, not a general explanation for every private livestream archive. YouTube outlines the options in its older unlisted content update.

For an affected video, check its current visibility in Studio. YouTube describes options including keeping it private, restoring legacy unlisted status where available, making it public, or re-uploading it. Re-uploading creates a new URL and does not carry over the original upload’s associated data, such as views or comments.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsIf there is no live archive at all
An unavailable item in an existing playlist and a missing archive are different problems. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, but streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured. Its live-stream archive guidance recommends recording a local backup. A local recording can help preserve future streams; it cannot recover an archive that was never captured.
