A PS4 “No Signal” or “No Input Signal” message usually means the monitor is not receiving a usable picture; the message alone does not identify whether the cause is the selected input, HDMI connection, cable, display settings, or a device fault. Start by selecting the correct HDMI input and connecting the PS4 directly to the monitor. If that does not work, test another input and cable, then use Safe Mode’s Change Resolution option before cross-testing the console and monitor.
1. Check power and select the monitor’s HDMI input
Turn on both the PS4 and monitor. With the monitor’s input or source control, select the exact HDMI port that the console uses. If the monitor has an on-screen display (OSD), open it and choose that HDMI input; menu labels vary by model. BenQ’s monitor guidance, for example, shows selecting HDMI in the OSD when there is no image: BenQ: Why there is no image when I connect the signal cable?
2. Reseat the HDMI cable and connect the PS4 directly
The PS4 sends video from its HDMI OUT port. Make sure one end of the cable is firmly seated there and the other is firmly connected to an HDMI input on the monitor. Sony’s troubleshooting guidance recommends checking the HDMI connection and simplifying the setup: connect the PS4 straight to the monitor while diagnosing, temporarily bypassing a receiver, soundbar, HDMI switch, capture device, or other intermediary. That isolates each additional link in the signal path. Sony: How to troubleshoot picture and sound issues with your PS4 console

If the monitor has another HDMI input, connect the PS4 there and select that input in the monitor menu. If possible, test with a cable already known to work with another HDMI device. Sony says, “If possible, try using a different HDMI cable.” For a replacement, Sony specifies a compatible High Speed HDMI or Premium High Speed HDMI cable. Testing is useful for isolating a cable problem; it does not guarantee that a new cable will fix the issue. Use an available known-working cable first, and replace the current one only if testing points to it. Sony’s PS4 picture and sound troubleshooting

4. Reset the picture output through Safe Mode
If normal startup still produces a blank screen, use Safe Mode’s Change Resolution option. Sony says this option is specifically helpful for blank screens and restarts the PS4 at 480p. The resolution change may restore an image so you can adjust display settings afterward. Sony: How to use Safe Mode on PS5 consoles and PS4 consoles
- Turn the PS4 fully off; do not leave it in Rest Mode.
- Press and hold the console’s power button. Release it after the second beep.
- Connect the controller to the console with a USB cable, then press the PS button.
- Choose Change Resolution from the Safe Mode menu. The console restarts at 480p.
Do not start with Initialize PS4 or Initialize PS4 (Reinstall System Software): those options delete user data, and they are not the appropriate first step for a display signal problem.

5. Check HDCP only for a PS4 Pro and a relevant 4K setup
The Set HDCP Mode option is for PS4 Pro; base PS4 owners should not look for it. On a PS4 Pro connected to a 4K display, HDCP compatibility across the display and every intermediary in the HDMI chain can affect 4K games or streaming. Sony documents selecting HDCP 1.4 when a 4K display does not support HDCP 2.2. This can restore an image, but may limit video output to 1080p. Sony: PS4 Pro console—How to set up 4K and HDR

For a compatible PS4 Pro 4K setup that still has resolution trouble, Sony also documents an advanced Safe Mode sequence: use Change Resolution to select 2160p – YUV420, then return HDCP Mode to Automatic. This path depends on what the monitor and the complete HDMI chain support; follow Sony’s guide rather than applying it to a base PS4 or an unrelated display setup. 6. Cross-test the monitor and console to locate the fault
A no-signal message does not prove that the PS4’s HDMI port has failed. Test the devices separately to narrow down the cause:
- Connect the PS4 to another known-working HDMI display.
- Connect a different HDMI source to the original monitor.
If the PS4 works on another screen, check the original monitor’s selected input, manual, and compatibility settings. If the monitor displays another source but the PS4 fails on multiple displays even with a known-working cable, use PlayStation Repairs for diagnostics. Those results make a console-side issue more likely, but the on-screen message alone cannot identify a failed port.
