If your Google Business Profile is missing from Google Search or Maps, first check that you’re signed in to the account that manages it, that the business is eligible, and that the profile is verified and not restricted. If it appears when someone searches your business name but not for broader searches, the issue is more likely local ranking: Google considers relevance, the searcher’s distance, and prominence, so a listing’s position can vary by query and location.
First, identify what “not showing” means
A profile can be missing from your account’s management view, absent from public Search and Maps, or simply not appear for a particular search. These are different problems, so test the exact business name and city before diagnosing a ranking issue.
- Missing from your management view: Confirm you are signed in to the Google Account that manages the profile. Search the business name and city, or search “my business.” If you cannot find it there, it may need to be added or claimed and verified. - Absent from public results, including a search for the business by name: Check eligibility, verification, recent edits, and whether Google has restricted the profile.
- Visible by name or on Maps, but missing for a service or category search: The profile exists; investigate how relevant it is to that query, how far the searcher is from the business, and other prominence signals.
To check how Google has recorded visibility after verification, use the Business Profile Performance report. It reports queries for which the profile appeared; it is not a control for choosing which searches display it.

Check that the business is eligible
Google’s general eligibility test is whether a business makes in-person contact with customers during its stated hours. Google lists online-only businesses and lead-generation companies among examples that do not qualify. There are exceptions for some business types, so review the full Business Profile eligibility and ownership guidelines rather than relying on the examples alone.

If the business does not qualify, creating another listing or repeatedly trying to verify it will not resolve the underlying issue. Confirm eligibility before attempting to add or restore a profile.
Verify the profile
Google says an unverified profile is not eligible to display. Sign in to the Google Account associated with the business and follow the verification option Google offers for that profile. Available methods depend on factors such as business type, public information, region, and business hours. Google may offer phone or text, email, video, or mail, but a particular method is not guaranteed to be available.

After you complete the steps, Google says verification review may take up to five business days. Check the profile for its status while you wait; do not assume the process is complete until Google confirms verification. Details are in Google’s verification guidance.

Check that the profile’s business information is complete, accurate, and current. Google says edits may take up to three days to appear in results. For a new business, Google says rankings may take up to a month to establish. These are Google process timeframes, not guarantees that the profile will appear for every query or reach a particular position. See Google’s guidance on finding a business.

If you just changed information or created a profile, avoid treating an immediate absence from one search as proof that the change failed. Check the profile’s status and test the business name and city as well as the original query.
Check for a restriction or suspension
Google says profiles that violate its guidelines may be disabled or suspended and hidden from other users until the issue is resolved. Check the Google Account used to manage the profile for a notice. Review the applicable rules, correct any underlying problem, and then use Google’s appeals tool for eligible Business Profile restrictions. Google recommends confirming the profile is verified before appealing; the process may allow you to submit evidence. Submit only accurate, supportable information.

Local results are mainly based on relevance, distance, and prominence, according to Google’s tips for improving local ranking.
- Relevance: How well the profile matches what the person searched for. Accurate, complete business information helps Google understand the business and match it to relevant searches.
- Distance: How far the business is from the searcher or the location included in the query. A profile may appear for someone nearby but not for a person searching from farther away.
- Prominence: How well known the business appears to be. Google identifies signals such as links to the business and reviews, but does not disclose its complete ranking algorithm.
Compare searches that differ in wording or location, and inspect the Performance report to see queries associated with recorded appearances. A profile’s position for one query is not a reliable promise of its position for another. Google states: “There’s no way to request or pay for a better local ranking on Google.” A consultant can review profile information and local presence, but cannot guarantee a position or sell Google’s ranking.

What profile information can and cannot tell you
Google says Business Profile information may come from multiple sources, not just edits submitted by the owner. Its explanation of how Google sources and uses information in Business Profiles and local search results can help explain why a displayed detail may not match what you entered. Check the public listing as well as the management view when confirming whether a change has appeared.
