Taylor Swift is not generally absent from Spotify today. Her catalog was removed from the service in 2014 after she objected to how its then-current access model presented the value of music. If you cannot find a particular song now, it may be unavailable in your country or hidden by an account setting or filter.
Why wasn’t Taylor Swift on Spotify?
The question refers mainly to the period after Swift’s catalog was removed from Spotify in November 2014. Her album 1989 was not available to stream when it was released that October, continuing an earlier pattern of withholding new albums, including Red. The broader back catalog was removed afterward, as contemporary reports documented (The Guardian; TIME).

Swift described the decision as a question of music’s value, rather than offering a definitive account of her personal earnings per stream. In a November 2014 TIME interview, she said, “I think there should be an inherent value placed on art. I didn’t see that happening, perception-wise, when I put my music on Spotify.” She contrasted Spotify with services whose premium packages were required to access her albums. She also put her view simply: “I think that people should feel that there is a value to what musicians have created, and that’s that.” (TIME interview, November 13, 2014.)

Yes: the 2014 removal is historical, not a blanket description of her current relationship with Spotify. Availability can still vary by country and change according to rights-holder permissions, so a particular track may not appear for every listener.

In a September 16, 2026 announcement, Spotify said all 58 of Swift’s official music videos were available to Premium subscribers in its beta markets, viewable on TV, desktop, iOS, and Android. That announcement describes a feature in specified beta markets; it does not establish availability for every account or region today. The figure refers to videos, not audio tracks or albums (Spotify Newsroom).
Why can’t I find a Taylor Swift song on Spotify?
If a specific song or album is missing, check the likely account and availability issues first:

- Country availability: Spotify’s catalog can differ between countries because it depends on rights-holder permissions.
- Filters or account: Make sure a search or library filter is not hiding the item, and confirm you are signed into the account you intended to use.
- Changing catalog: Spotify says content is added daily; an item that is missing may appear or reappear later.
Spotify’s guidance is to search again and check for filters or account issues. Its catalog may change over time, so a result in one country or at one point in time does not guarantee the same result everywhere (Spotify Support).
What changed with Swift’s recording rights?
In May 2025, the Associated Press reported that Swift bought her catalog of recordings, originally released through Big Machine Records, from Shamrock Capital. The reported sale price was not disclosed (Associated Press, May 30, 2025). That ownership news is separate from the explanation Swift gave for leaving Spotify in 2014; it does not by itself establish why any individual item is or is not available there.
