Red Dead Redemption 2 runs at 30 FPS on PS5 because the console plays the PS4 version through backward compatibility; it does not automatically convert that game into a 60 FPS PS5 edition. The available technical record lists the game at a locked 30 FPS on PS5, but Rockstar has not established in the cited sources why it set or retained that cap. Players can use a PS5 Pro image-quality option, but it is not a frame-rate mode.
Why RDR2 remains at 30 FPS on PS5
PlayStation lists Red Dead Redemption 2 as a PS4 game, marked PS4 Pro Enhanced and playable on PS5. Rockstar’s backward-compatibility announcement likewise describes the PS4 version playing on PS5; it does not announce a native PS5 upgrade.
Backward compatibility lets the PS5 run the existing PS4 game, but the console’s more powerful hardware does not by itself remove a frame-rate cap built into the game’s behavior. A third-party backward-compatibility tracker lists RDR2 at a locked 30 FPS on PS5 and gives the same 30 FPS result for PS4 Pro. Its entry was last updated January 4, 2021, so treat it as an attributed technical record, not a new Rockstar benchmark or a current official measurement.
The cited sources do not establish Rockstar’s specific development reason for the cap. Claims that it was chosen for a cinematic look, to address CPU limits, or as a particular performance trade-off go beyond what those sources show.

Can you change RDR2 to 60 FPS on PS5?
No player-accessible RDR2 setting that unlocks 60 FPS is documented in the cited sources. Sony’s backward-compatibility guidance says selected PS4 games may benefit from Game Boost and run at a higher or smoother frame rate. That general feature is not a promise of a higher frame rate for every PS4 game; the available RDR2 record still lists 30 FPS on PS5.
Keep the console’s system software current and play the PS4 version, but do not expect a system update or a display setting to turn it into a 60 FPS release. The available sources do not identify a supported RDR2 performance mode for standard PS5 or PS5 Pro.

What PS5 Pro players can change
PS5 Pro includes a system-level image option called Enhance Image Quality for PS4 Games. Sony documents it as an image-quality feature, not as an RDR2 frame-rate setting. Sony’s PS5 Pro guidance gives this menu path:

- Select Screen and Video, then Video Output.
- Choose Enhance Image Quality for PS4 Games.
Sony says the option requires a 1440p or 2160p display running at 60 Hz and is available only on consoles in the CFI-7000 model group. Turn it off if you encounter unexpected gameplay behavior. Sony does not claim that enabling it raises RDR2’s FPS.

Actual frame rate versus perceived smoothness
A TV or monitor may offer motion processing that changes how movement appears, but that is display processing—not evidence that the game is rendering more frames. The cited sources do not support a particular TV setting as a way to increase RDR2’s actual frame rate. Keep the distinction clear: PS5 Pro’s documented option targets image quality, while the available technical record reports the game at 30 FPS.
