If a prerecorded gaming video stops instead of repeating, open the source’s properties in OBS and enable Loop for a single-file Media Source, or Loop Playlist for a VLC Video source. If you are capturing live gameplay with Game Capture, there is no finished media file to loop: use a media source for prerecorded footage. If OBS preview loops correctly but viewers see interruptions, investigate stream delivery rather than the media loop setting.
Choose the right source for what you want to loop

The OBS Project documentation describes Media Source as a way to play local video and audio files. Its Media Sources guide, dated January 11, 2022, lists availability on Windows, macOS, and Linux, but does not identify an OBS release version; exact wording or placement may differ in your build. The guide lists video formats including MP4, TS, MOV, FLV, MKV, AVI, GIF, and WebM, and audio formats including MP3, AAC, OGG, and WAV. Read the OBS Media Sources guide.
Loop one prerecorded gaming video with Media Source
- In the OBS scene you are streaming, add or select a Media Source. To add one, use the Sources panel’s + button and choose Media Source.
- Open the source’s properties. Select the local video file you want to play and confirm the source is enabled and visible in the scene.
- Turn on Loop, then apply the change. OBS documents this setting as controlling whether the file plays again after playback completes; the guide lists its default as Off.
- Check the OBS preview as the video reaches its end. It should begin playing again. If it does not, confirm the selected file and that you changed the properties of the source actually used in the live scene.
Loop a playlist with VLC Video
- Install VLC if it is not already installed. OBS says VLC Video requires VLC; if you use 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC.
- In the scene you are streaming, add or select a VLC Video source and open its properties.
- Check that the playlist contains the intended video files, then enable Loop Playlist.
- Confirm that the source is visible and active, and watch the preview as the playlist finishes to verify it starts again.
A single-file Media Source’s Loop option and VLC Video’s Loop Playlist option are distinct controls. Use the one that matches your source.
Check playback settings that can look like a loop failure
Restart playback when the source becomes active
OBS lists Restart playback when source becomes active as a separate setting, enabled by default in the cited guide. It controls playback when the source becomes active; it is not the setting that repeats a file after it finishes.

Show nothing when playback ends
Show nothing when playback ends is also separate from Loop and is listed as enabled by default in that guide. If looping is off, this option can make a completed video disappear instead of holding on its final frame. Check it if the source vanishes at the end, but do not mistake it for the repeat control.
Scene visibility and source activation
Make sure the source is in the scene sent to YouTube and that it is not hidden or inactive. If the source is not visible in the OBS preview, first verify the source type, selected file or playlist, loop control, and scene visibility.

Work out whether the problem is playback or stream delivery
Compare what you see in the OBS preview with what viewers see. If the preview itself stops, focus on the media source, file or playlist, loop setting, and source activation. If the preview keeps looping but YouTube viewers see a gap or interruption, check the encoder output and the stream connection instead.

Fix stuttering only if gameplay load is involved
If the video or stream stutters while the game is running, GPU pressure may be affecting OBS rendering. OBS recommends capping the game’s frame rate or enabling V-Sync to free resources when GPU overload causes choppy output. This addresses performance; it does not replace enabling the correct loop option. See OBS encoding-performance troubleshooting.
If OBS reports no dropped frames but some viewers buffer, their network connections and devices may be part of the problem. Check stream delivery and viewer playback conditions rather than assuming the local media source stopped. See OBS guidance on dropped frames and connection issues.

If it still will not loop
Note which source type you are using—Media Source, VLC Video, Game Capture, or another source—and whether playback stops in the OBS preview or only for YouTube viewers. Those details identify whether to troubleshoot media playback, scene activation, rendering performance, or stream delivery.
