Memory prices are rising because AI and cloud-server demand is competing for limited DRAM and NAND supply. Suppliers are directing advanced production toward server products, while packaging, testing and production-flexibility constraints limit how quickly supply can respond. The increases are not uniform: TrendForce’s 30 September 2026 forecast calls for higher fourth-quarter contract prices, but it does not predict exactly how much a particular RAM kit or consumer SSD will cost at retail.

What is the latest memory price forecast?

TrendForce’s 30 September 2026 outlook projects that conventional DRAM contract prices will rise 10–15% quarter over quarter in 4Q26, while NAND Flash contract prices will rise 15–20%. These are forecasts for negotiated contract markets, not measured retail price increases or guarantees for individual products. The outcome can vary with product type, buyer, inventory and contract terms. TrendForce’s 4Q26 forecast is the source for these estimates.

For comparison, TrendForce’s 3 July 2026 forecast projected conventional DRAM up 13–18% and NAND Flash up 10–15% quarter over quarter in 3Q26. Those were forecasts for a different quarter; they should not be treated as realized price changes or combined with the 4Q26 estimates. TrendForce’s 3Q26 outlook provides that earlier comparison.

Why are DRAM and NAND prices going up?

AI infrastructure raises demand for server memory and storage

Cloud service providers are expanding AI infrastructure, including systems used for inference. Those workloads need server DRAM and enterprise SSD capacity. TrendForce identifies AI inference, real-time retrieval and caching, and vector databases among the uses supporting enterprise SSD demand. It forecasts enterprise SSD bit demand to grow more than 80% year over year in 2026; that figure is a demand forecast for enterprise SSDs, not consumer SSD shipments or retail prices. TrendForce’s 2026 analysis covers these demand drivers.

Suppliers are allocating capacity to server products

Memory makers are prioritizing advanced-process capacity for high-performance server products. When production and investment favor those products, less capacity may be available for PC, mobile, graphics or commodity consumer memory. TrendForce also describes constrained consumer DRAM and NAND wafer availability. The result is not simply “more memory demand”: where capacity is allocated matters as much as total output.

Supply cannot adjust instantly

Adding or redirecting production does not immediately resolve a shortage. TrendForce cites packaging and testing constraints, alongside limited flexibility in front-end DRAM production. For 4Q26, suppliers are fulfilling agreed volumes for PC makers and module manufacturers, while the outlook says PC DRAM supply could decline in 2027 if capacity shifts further toward servers. That is a conditional outlook, not a guaranteed decline.

Why are RAM, phone memory and SSD prices not moving together?

“Memory” covers products with different buyers and supply chains. Server DRAM, phone memory, graphics memory, client SSDs and enterprise SSDs do not have interchangeable demand or pricing. A forecast for one category should not be applied to another.

Product or market What is affecting it What the outlook establishes
Conventional DRAM Strong server demand and suppliers’ allocation of advanced capacity toward high-performance products. TrendForce forecasts a 10–15% quarter-over-quarter contract-price increase in 4Q26. This is not a retail forecast.
Server DRAM Cloud and AI demand; supply remains tight. Long-term agreements can make some suppliers’ increases lag spot or broader market movements. TrendForce describes server DRAM as undersupplied in its 4Q26 outlook; the exact change depends on supplier and contract.
PC DRAM PC makers continue procurement amid tight-supply expectations, but higher component costs weigh on notebook sales. TrendForce says supply could decline in 2027 if more capacity shifts to servers; it does not give a retail RAM-kit increase.
Mobile DRAM Capacity shifts toward AI and server uses, while smartphone makers face higher component costs and depleted low-cost inventory. Supply is tight, but no universal smartphone-memory or phone-price pass-through is established.
Graphics DRAM GDDR6 production is being scaled back, while GDDR7 output remains limited as advanced capacity goes to server DRAM. AI-chip demand supports GDDR7 procurement. These allocation trends do not establish a specific graphics-card or consumer memory price change.
Client SSDs PC OEM inventories and demand for smaller mainstream SSD capacities limit procurement and price pass-through. TrendForce distinguishes this market from enterprise SSDs; the enterprise demand forecast is not a client SSD forecast.
Enterprise SSDs AI inference and related data-center uses are driving demand, and most incremental supply is committed. TrendForce forecasts more than 80% year-over-year bit-demand growth in 2026 and expects 4Q26 price growth to accelerate.
NAND wafers and consumer storage Suppliers prioritize capacity by profitability; module makers are cautious because downstream channels may not absorb historically high wafer prices readily. TrendForce forecasts a 15–20% quarter-over-quarter rise in NAND Flash contract prices in 4Q26, not an equivalent retail increase for consumer SSDs.

Why might the price increase reach a store at a different time?

Contract terms, inventories and the path through the supply chain affect when a market change shows up in a product price. A PC maker with inventory may continue using components bought at earlier costs before new prices flow through. Smartphone makers face a different combination of higher component costs and depleted low-cost inventory. Long-term server agreements may also delay or moderate the effect of market increases for particular suppliers.

Retail prices add further variables, including product capacity, brand, region, retailer and local inventory. The TrendForce figures are market-level contract forecasts; they do not establish a universal percentage increase for a DDR5 kit, phone, graphics card or consumer SSD.

What should buyers take from the forecast?

  • Check the product category. A DRAM contract forecast is not a NAND forecast, and an enterprise SSD outlook is not a consumer NVMe SSD price prediction.
  • Separate price types. Contract, spot and retail prices can move differently; identify which one a quoted percentage describes.
  • For a PC upgrade, check compatibility and local prices. The market forecast alone cannot establish whether a RAM kit fits your system or whether a particular retailer’s current price is good.
  • For storage, compare the consumer product you need. Enterprise SSD demand helps explain NAND-market pressure, but enterprise and client drives serve different markets.

When will memory prices come down?

The available outlook does not establish a date for a peak or a return to normal. TrendForce forecasts further contract-price increases in 4Q26 and says PC DRAM supply could decline in 2027 if capacity continues shifting toward servers, but neither point specifies when prices will reverse. These projections can change as demand, production and inventories evolve.
