First check the exact LG monitor model: 34 inches does not tell you whether it has built-in speakers. If it does, check its volume and mute settings, select the monitor as the Windows sound output, and verify the cable connection. If it has no speakers, you’ll need compatible external audio equipment.
1. Check whether your exact monitor has speakers
Find the complete model number on the monitor’s label or in its documentation, then look up its specifications or manual on LG Support. Check for built-in speakers and audio ports. LG notes that both speaker availability and input ports vary by model, and its general support instructions may not match every product.
If the specifications do not list built-in speakers, the monitor cannot play sound through its own speakers. Continue to the external-audio options below rather than trying to enable speakers that are not present.
2. If it has speakers, check volume and mute
Use the monitor’s joystick or on-screen controls to raise its volume and confirm it is not muted. The controls and menu labels differ across models, so consult the manual if you cannot find the audio setting. LG’s general guidance likewise recommends checking the product’s volume and mute state.

3. Verify the audio connection
HDMI, DisplayPort, and USB-C can carry audio when the connected computer, monitor, and specific ports support it. A video picture does not by itself prove that the connection is carrying sound. LG identifies a loose, damaged, or incompatible cable or adapter as a possible cause of missing audio.
- Reseat the cable at both ends and inspect it for visible damage.
- Connect the computer directly to the monitor if possible; an adapter can interfere with audio.
- If available, try a different compatible cable and port.
- If you use a conversion such as HDMI-to-DVI, note that it may carry video without audio.
Check both devices’ manuals or specifications to confirm audio support for the connection you are using.

4. Select the LG monitor in Windows
Windows may be sending sound to another output, such as the computer’s speakers or a headset. Open the sound control from the taskbar and choose the LG monitor or the display-audio device associated with it. The exact device name can vary.

5. Check whether only one app is silent
If other Windows sounds play through the monitor, open the Windows volume mixer and make sure the affected app is not muted or turned down. For supported LG Smart Monitor models, LG also describes a sound self-diagnosis under Support settings; availability and menu wording depend on the model.
6. Use external audio if the monitor has no speakers
If your monitor lacks built-in speakers, connect compatible headphones, earphones, or external speakers to its Headphone Out port, if it has one. Confirm the exact model’s ports and manual before choosing equipment; the available connection and whether it passes audio from your selected input depend on the model. Powered computer speakers are another option when the monitor’s output or your computer provides a compatible connection.

When to contact LG Support
If the model is specified to have speakers and you have checked monitor volume, Windows output selection, app volume, and a direct compatible connection without restoring sound, contact LG Support. Have the complete model number and connection type ready so support can give instructions for that product.
