If your YouTube gaming stream is marked offline after a VOD loops, first check whether the live event is still active in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and whether YouTube is still receiving a feed from your encoder. A replay appearing on your channel is a separate state: it does not prove that the live broadcast is continuing. YouTube’s documentation does not identify a specific looping setup as the cause, so these checks help distinguish an ended event from a feed or status problem.
What “offline” can mean after a VOD loops
A YouTube livestream and its replay are different things. A live event can end, while a replay of it remains available on the channel afterward. Seeing the VOD or replay therefore does not, by itself, mean that YouTube is still receiving a live broadcast. YouTube describes managing an encoder-based event in Live Control Room and ending it by stopping the encoder feed and ending the event. The conclusion that a looped file alone does not keep an event live follows from that documented workflow; YouTube does not document the exact behavior of every looping setup.
Start by checking the event’s state in Live Control Room rather than relying only on the watch page or a replay. YouTube identifies Live Control Room as the place to manage a stream and its settings: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.

Check the event and incoming feed
- Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. Check whether the event is still active or has ended. If it has ended, a replay may still be available separately.
- Confirm the encoder is still sending the intended feed. Check that the encoder is connected to the stream URL and configured with the stream key for that event. YouTube describes the stream key as the information that lets its service accept the encoder feed. See Manage live stream settings.
- Check the event’s live status separately from the VOD. Look at the channel’s Live tab and YouTube Studio’s Content area for an archive or replay. YouTube’s guidance explains that a replay can be available after the event is over: Learn about live streams.
- Check a local recording, if you made one. YouTube recommends keeping a local archive as a backup. It can help you distinguish a missing YouTube archive from a problem with your original recording.
Where to find the replay—and what YouTube archives
Look in the channel’s Live tab and YouTube Studio’s Content area for the stream archive. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. A stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all, so do not rely on YouTube to preserve every longer broadcast. YouTube also recommends recording a local archive. Details are in Archive live streams.

DVR does not keep an event live
DVR lets viewers pause and rewind during a live stream; it is not an indicator that YouTube is still receiving a feed, and it does not determine whether an ended event has an archive. YouTube notes that rewind capability may be limited or unavailable on streams longer than 12 hours. Changing DVR is therefore not a fix for an event that is offline because it ended or stopped receiving the encoder feed. See Turn on DVR on live streams.
Troubleshoot based on what you see
| What you find | What it indicates | What to check next |
|---|---|---|
| Live Control Room shows the event has ended | The live event is no longer active; an available replay is separate from the live broadcast. | Check the Live tab and Studio Content area for the archive. For a future broadcast, confirm the encoder feed and event are active before relying on playback looping. |
| The event is intended to be live, but the expected feed is not arriving | YouTube’s encoder workflow depends on an incoming feed associated with the stream URL and stream key. | Check the encoder’s connection, configured stream URL, and stream key in the relevant event settings. |
| The stream ended, but no replay is visible | An archive may not be available in every case, particularly for streams exceeding YouTube’s 12-hour threshold. | Check Studio Content and the channel’s Live tab, then consult any local recording you made. YouTube does not guarantee capture of a stream exceeding 12 hours. |
| Viewers can’t rewind, or DVR is off | This concerns DVR controls, not whether the event is still live or whether its replay exists. | Review the DVR setting only if viewer pause-and-rewind behavior is the issue. |
