A yellow-looking projector image can be caused by picture settings, the source device, the HDMI connection, or a projector fault. Start by checking whether the projector’s own menu is also yellow, then work through reversible settings and signal-path checks before considering service. A yellow cast alone does not identify a failed part.
First, check whether the projector’s menu is yellow
Open the projector’s on-screen menu while the source image is visible. If the menu and the source picture both look yellow, the projector’s settings or internal hardware become more plausible causes. If the menu looks normal but one source’s picture is yellow, focus first on that source, its settings, and the connection carrying its signal. This is a practical way to narrow the problem, not a definitive diagnosis.
Try these reversible checks in order

Change the picture or color mode
Try another available picture or color mode and see whether the color changes. Names and options vary by projector; use the manual for your exact model. Epson recommends selecting a suitable color mode when projected colors are incorrect, and LG notes that available picture modes differ by model. Epson’s color troubleshooting guidance and LG’s projector picture guidance provide general advice, not a diagnosis of a particular yellow cast.

Check the source and selected input
Confirm that the source device is using the intended output and that the projector is displaying the correct input. If the source has picture or color settings, check whether changing them affects the image. Where the projector offers an HDMI video-range setting, verify it is configured appropriately for the source.

Reconnect and test the HDMI cable
Make sure the cable is seated securely at both ends. If it is long or suspect, try a shorter, known-good compatible cable. Epson recommends checking the HDMI connection and suggests a shorter cable when a long one is in use. This is a diagnostic test, not evidence that the cable is always responsible or that buying one will fix the problem.

Adjust available image controls carefully
If the projector provides controls such as tint or saturation, adjust them gradually and check the result. Epson also lists brightness and contrast among image controls to consider for incorrect colors. Write down the original values first so you can restore them. Menu names and available controls differ across models.

What the pattern can tell you
- Only one source looks yellow: Investigate that source’s settings, the selected input, and its connection before assuming the projector has an internal fault.
- The projector menu and multiple sources look yellow: A projector setting or internal issue is more plausible. If changing modes and available controls does not help, seek model-specific support.
- The image is yellow and also dim: Check the exact model’s lamp or light-source status and service guidance. Available lamp and picture modes vary by model; the cited manufacturer guidance does not establish an aging lamp as a general cause of yellow discoloration.
When to contact support or arrange service
If the yellow cast remains across inputs and sources after the settings and connection checks, or the projector’s own menu is tinted, contact the manufacturer or a qualified repair provider with the exact model number and a description of what you tested. Internal faults are possible, but the available evidence does not establish their frequency or identify a failed component in an individual projector. A color wheel is discussed as a possibility for some DLP models, while panel or polarizer issues are possibilities for some LCD models; those are model- and symptom-dependent hypotheses, not instructions to replace parts. Do not buy an internal replacement part based on a yellow cast alone.
