A new Samsung washer that shakes hard or moves across the floor usually needs an installation or load check before it needs repair. On a new front-load model, first check that the shipping bolts were removed; then make sure the washer is level, stable, and clear of nearby surfaces. If it still shakes after those checks and a test cycle, contact the installer or seller and request Samsung service.
A small amount of vibration at the start of a cycle can happen while the washer senses the load. Persistent or heavy shaking—especially during spin—needs attention. These steps follow Samsung US Support guidance accessed October 7, 2026; exact hardware and procedures vary by model and market.
Why is my new Samsung washer shaking?
The most useful first distinction is whether the machine shakes while empty or only with laundry inside. If it rocks when empty, focus on shipping bolts, feet, floor, and clearance. If it is stable empty but shakes with a load, laundry may be bunched or unbalanced.

- Washer rocks or one foot seems loose: check leveling, floor stability, and contact with a wall or dryer.
- Shaking starts with laundry or worsens at spin: redistribute the load and consider whether a bulky item or small load has gathered to one side.
- Brief movement at cycle start: some vibration while the washer senses the load can be normal; sustained, forceful movement is not something to ignore.
Check shipping bolts on a new front-load washer
Shipping bolts secure the drum during transport and must be removed before operation. Samsung says front-load washers use them; top-load washers do not. Bolt counts differ by product line, so do not assume a count or removal procedure from another model.

- Find the washer’s model number and consult its manual before moving the machine or removing hardware.
- On a front-load model, open the door and gently press the drum. Some spring-like movement is expected. A nearly rigid feel can indicate that shipping bolts remain.
- If bolts are present, follow the exact model instructions. Samsung’s guide describes loosening each bolt with the supplied spanner, sliding out its spacer, and fitting the supplied plastic hole covers.
- Keep the bolts and spacers for a future move. Do not force the washer away from the wall or remove unidentified hardware.
Samsung’s support page says its models may have three or four shipping bolts, and FlexWash models may have seven. Confirm the arrangement in your manual rather than relying on that general range.
Make sure the washer is level and stable
A machine can vibrate even when its internal parts are fine if it stands on a soft, uneven, slippery, or damaged surface, or if it rocks on its feet. Samsung recommends a firm, level floor and says not to install the washer on carpeting or a slippery surface. Its installation guidance also gives clearance requirements.

- With the washer empty, gently rock it from corner to corner. A loose corner or rocking movement means the feet or supporting surface need attention.
- Check that the washer is not touching a wall, dryer, or other object. Samsung specifies at least 1 inch between the washer and dryer, and at least 1 inch between the washer and walls.
- Make sure every foot contacts the floor. Adjust the appropriate feet until the washer sits firmly without rocking. Samsung notes that shorter legs are generally more stable.
- For front-load models, Samsung’s guide says to loosen the leveling-foot lock nuts before adjusting and tighten them afterward; it identifies a flat-blade screwdriver for this step. Foot arrangements can differ on top-load models, so follow the manual.
- If the washer sits on a pedestal or riser, ensure that it is level and installed correctly before setting or leveling the washer on it. Samsung notes that some vibration can remain even with a properly leveled pedestal.
Why does my Samsung washer shake during spin?
Spin makes a load’s uneven weight more noticeable. Small loads can collect on one side, while sheets and blankets can tangle and concentrate wet weight. Pause the cycle if appropriate, spread items evenly around the drum, and restart. If the manual advises against washing a single bulky item by itself, follow that instruction; lowering spin speed can also help with an unsuitable or hard-to-balance load.

A separate Samsung page gives 3 pounds as a recommended minimum washer load. These are Samsung’s general examples, not universal limits: capacity and recommendations depend on the model. How do I stop my new washer from moving?
Correct the cause before trying to dampen the movement. Start with the shipping-bolt and stability checks above, then inspect the load. Do not treat pads as a substitute for proper installation: Samsung’s cited guidance emphasizes a firm floor, clearance, bolt removal, and leveling, and does not establish anti-vibration pads as an endorsed fix.
- Correct any installation issue you find, using the model manual for hardware and adjustment details.
- Redistribute an unbalanced load or adjust load size and spin speed as appropriate for the model.
- Run a small load or a Rinse & Spin test cycle, which Samsung names as an example of a test after corrections.
- Use calibration only if your model supports it and its manual gives the procedure. Samsung says calibration controls vary by model and some models do not have Calibration Mode; do not assume a button combination applies to your washer.
When should I call the installer or Samsung?
Contact the installer or seller about a newly installed appliance if it was not set up correctly or the problem began immediately after installation. Request Samsung service if strong vibration persists after the bolt, leveling, clearance, and load checks. Samsung also advises requesting service if the drum will not spin during calibration. Do not assume an internal part has failed without an inspection.

When you ask for help, have these details ready:
- Model number and whether it is front-load or top-load.
- Whether the empty washer rocks and whether the drum has spring-like give.
- Which cycle and load cause the movement, and whether it occurs only during spin.
- Whether the washer is on a pedestal, soft floor, or other nonstandard surface.
- Which installation and load checks you have already completed.
Samsung’s official guide summarizes the issue this way: “Your washing machine may shake, move, and make noise while spinning.” That general statement does not mean severe or persistent movement should be left unaddressed; use the model-specific manual and service guidance when the checks above do not resolve it.
