If Capture more is missing when you screenshot a website in Chrome, it does not necessarily mean your Android phone cannot take scrolling screenshots. Google says the feature is available on Android 12 and later for most—but not all—screens that allow scrolling. Use the phone’s screenshot controls, then check whether the issue happens only in Chrome or on one particular page.
How Android scrolling screenshots are supposed to work
On Android 12 and later, Google’s documented method is to open a screen that scrolls, press Power + Volume down to take a screenshot, then tap Capture more if it appears. Use the crop guides to choose how much of the screen to include. Google qualifies availability as applying to most screens that allow scrolling, not every app or page. Google’s Android screenshot instructions also advise checking the phone manufacturer’s support guidance if the device uses different screenshot steps.
Why the option may be missing in Chrome
The most careful explanation is a compatibility or version-specific issue in the screenshot path, rather than a categorical lack of scrolling capture in Android. Chrome’s integration has changed over time: in December 2021, reporting said Android 12’s Capture more control did not initially appear in Chrome because Chrome and WebView were not standard View-based interfaces; the report later noted support had rolled out with Chrome 96. That is historical context, not a diagnosis or guarantee for every current phone and site. 9to5Google’s December 2021 report describes that rollout.
A recent Pixel community post reports a missing control after an Android 17 update, but it is one user report and does not establish a widespread bug, its cause, or a verified fix. The community post is anecdotal evidence only.

Diagnose whether it is Android, Chrome, or one webpage
- Check the Android version. The documented feature applies to Android 12 and later. If you are unsure how to check or your phone’s controls differ, use the manufacturer’s instructions.
- Test the system screenshot flow. On a scrollable screen, press Power + Volume down and look for Capture more in the screenshot controls.
- Compare with another scrollable app. Try a screen that clearly scrolls outside Chrome. If the option is missing there too, note the phone model and Android version; the problem may not be specific to Chrome.
- Compare webpages in Chrome. If Capture more works in another app, try a different long webpage. A failure on only one site points to a page-specific difference, though this comparison does not by itself identify the cause.
- Check for a Chrome update. Update Chrome through the device’s normal app-update mechanism. Chrome’s past rollout history shows support can vary by software release, but updating is not a guaranteed fix for every current case.
What not to assume
- Do not assume all scrollable webpages or apps must expose Capture more; Google says the feature works on most eligible screens.
- Do not treat the Android 17 community report as proof of a general Chrome or Pixel bug.
- Do not rely on instructions to change
chrome://flagsas a supported fix; the available documentation does not establish a current flag remedy. - Do not install an old Chrome version such as Chrome 96 based on the historical rollout report. It explains a past change, not a current recommendation.
