NetApp executives described India as one of the company’s fastest-growing storage markets in Asia in 2023 and 2024. The clearest sector drivers named by NetApp were banking, financial services and insurance (BFSI), telecom, government and growing small and medium enterprises (SMEs). IT services matter as part of India’s broader technology economy, but the available NetApp statements do not identify IT services companies as a distinct driver of the company’s India growth.
What NetApp executives said about India’s growth
The “fastest-growing” description is a dated executive characterization, not a current audited ranking of NetApp’s country growth rates. The two public statements also describe India’s relative position differently:

Chhabria also said, “Given the current growth trajectory, we expect India to become the leading contributor in the Asian region over the next five years.” That was an expectation expressed in March 2024, not evidence that India subsequently became the leading contributor. Kurian said in 2023 that NetApp had “the aspiration to serve a much broader market” in India.

- BFSI: Banking, financial services and insurance enterprises were among the sectors he identified. Their digital systems can create demand for resilient storage, but the interview did not quantify their contribution to NetApp’s Indian sales.
- Telecom: Telecom enterprises were also named directly as a driver.
- Government: Government demand was included in Kurian’s account of the opportunity.
- SMEs: He cited rising small and medium enterprises, suggesting growth was not limited to the largest organizations.
Kurian also said Indian organizations were prioritizing IT spending to drive business. That is a statement about spending priorities, not a sector-specific finding that IT services firms were buying more NetApp storage.
Where IT services fit—and what the evidence does not show
IT services and software activity help explain the scale of India’s technology economy, but national indicators should not be mistaken for NetApp customer data. A March 2026 Government of India backgrounder estimated services exports at USD 348.4 billion for April–January FY2025–26. It also reported that software services exports rose 7.3% year over year in FY2025, citing an RBI survey of computer software and IT-enabled services. The distinction matters: the interviews support saying that BFSI, telecom, government and SMEs were cited by a NetApp executive as India growth drivers. They do not support presenting IT services as a separately established NetApp growth driver.
What market estimates say about India storage demand
A separate market estimate offers context for enterprise storage, but it is not a NetApp forecast. Netweb Technologies India Limited’s Annual Report 2024–25 reproduces Frost & Sullivan estimates for India:

The enterprise-storage figures indicate a larger but slower-growing market estimate than the BFSI cloud-managed-services segment.
