If Hulu crashes, freezes, or stops playing, first check whether the problem is limited to one title or device. Try another title, fully close and reopen Hulu, install available app and device updates, clear cache or data if your device supports it, and check your internet connection. Those steps can help narrow down the cause, but they do not confirm whether Hulu is experiencing an outage.
Start by checking how widespread the problem is
Notice what happens when Hulu fails: does the app close, freeze, or show a playback error? Then try another title or recording. If that plays, the problem may be limited to the original content or stream rather than the whole app. Hulu recommends trying different content as a troubleshooting step, including in its Cloud DVR troubleshooting guidance.
If you can, compare Hulu on another device using the same network, or try the affected device on another available connection. These comparisons are practical clues, not a verified Hulu outage test: a single-device failure makes that device or its app installation worth checking, while failures across devices and content make one local installation a less likely explanation.

1. Fully close and reopen the app
Exit Hulu completely, rather than just returning to the device’s home screen, and launch it again. Hulu includes fully closing the app among its troubleshooting steps.

2. Check for app and system updates
Check your device’s app store or update settings for a Hulu app update, then check for updates to the device’s operating system. Hulu recommends keeping both current. Its directions differ for phones, streaming players, TVs, and consoles, so use the instructions for your particular platform in Hulu’s app and system update guide.
3. Clear cache or data if your device offers that option
Some devices provide controls for clearing an app’s cache or data; others do not. Hulu recommends clearing temporary files where supported, which can free space. Because the control and its effects vary by platform, check your device’s instructions first: clearing app data may affect your sign-in state.

4. Check the internet connection
Run a connection or speed check on the device if available, and see whether other apps or websites are also having trouble. If they are, the broader connection is a sensible place to investigate. A connection issue can disrupt playback, but it does not explain every Hulu crash, and the symptoms alone do not show that equipment needs replacing. Hulu’s troubleshooting guidance also recommends checking connectivity and comparing speed results with its recommendations.

Use the symptoms as clues, not proof of an outage
- One title fails, but others play: Focus first on that title or stream. Trying another recording is one of Hulu’s suggested ways to help isolate a content-specific problem.
- Only one device fails: Check that device’s Hulu installation, app version, system software, and connection.
- Several devices or types of content fail at once: A broader network or service-side problem becomes more plausible, but those symptoms cannot identify which one is responsible.
- Other internet services fail too: That points toward a wider connectivity problem, though it does not confirm a Hulu-specific outage.
The Hulu Help Center pages cited here do not provide a verified live service-status result. A crashing app, by itself, is not enough to conclude that Hulu is up or down.

Contact Hulu if the problem continues
If the steps above do not resolve the failure, use Hulu’s streaming support page for current contact options, including its virtual assistant and phone support. When you contact support, share the device and platform, the app version if you can find it, what you have tried, and whether other titles or devices are affected. That detail helps distinguish a device-specific issue from a wider pattern.
