HostGator does not offer Windows VPS plans in the U.S. market. Its U.S. VPS documentation states that there are no Windows or BSD VPS plans, and that AlmaLinux 9 is installed on every VPS plan. The documentation does not explain why. If you need a Windows Server virtual private server, you will need to look at other providers, and the alternatives are covered below.
What HostGator’s VPS documentation says
HostGator’s help article “VPS Operating System” gives two statements that matter for this question. The first is a direct exclusion: “There are no Windows or BSD VPS plans.” The second describes the default: “Currently, we are offering Alma Linux9 to all VPS plans.” In other words, every HostGator VPS is a Linux server, and the operating system you get is AlmaLinux 9.
The article is written for HostGator’s U.S. help pages. HostGator’s catalog can differ by market, so if you are buying from a non-U.S. HostGator site, check that region’s VPS page before assuming the same answer applies.
Why HostGator does not say
The cited page does not give a reason for the missing Windows option. It does not mention licensing, technical constraints, customer demand, or product strategy. Any explanation you read elsewhere is speculation unless HostGator states it. For a buying decision, the practical point is simpler: the Windows VPS option is not part of HostGator’s VPS line, so you should plan around that.

What HostGator offers for Windows instead
HostGator does sell Windows-based hosting, but in two product categories that are separate from VPS. Neither is a Windows VPS, and they differ from a VPS in isolation, resources, and control.
Windows shared hosting
Windows shared hosting places your site on a server shared with other customers. HostGator describes it as supporting technologies such as ASP.NET and MSSQL. This suits websites and web applications that run within those technologies. It does not give you a server of your own, so you cannot install arbitrary Windows software, change system-level settings, or allocate resources the way a VPS allows.

Windows dedicated servers
HostGator also lists Windows dedicated servers. A dedicated server is a single physical machine rented to one customer. It provides more isolation and resources than shared hosting, but it is a different product from a VPS and is priced and provisioned differently. Check HostGator’s current dedicated-server pages for the specifications and terms that apply.

Three providers publish Windows VPS product pages that can be considered as alternatives: Kamatera, Hostwinds, and Liquid Web. Their pages establish that they advertise Windows VPS. They do not, on their own, establish service quality, performance, or availability in your region, so compare them against your own requirements.

Kamatera’s Windows VPS page advertises Windows Server hosting, configurable resources, remote management, and sample configurations that include Windows Server 2022. The sample configurations and their prices are presented as examples and change over time, so confirm current figures on the live page.
Hostwinds
Hostwinds advertises managed Windows VPS plans in several resource tiers, with Windows Server options and RDP access. The Windows Server versions offered and the plan terms should be confirmed on the current page before you commit.

Liquid Web
Liquid Web advertises Windows VPS in managed, core-managed, and unmanaged service levels, with Windows Server offerings. Confirm the current Windows Server version, the plan’s term commitment, and the renewal price before purchase, since introductory rates often differ from renewal rates.

Because provider pages expose different configurations and management options, compare them on the same six points before choosing one.

Which option fits your situation
- A Windows-based website or web application that runs on ASP.NET and MSSQL: Windows shared hosting from HostGator may be enough, provided you do not need your own server environment.
- Full control of a Windows Server environment, with dedicated resources: Look at a Windows VPS from one of the alternatives above, or at a Windows dedicated server if you need a whole machine.
- A Linux VPS on HostGator: Use the AlmaLinux 9 plans, but check that your software runs on that operating system.
Before you buy from any provider, recheck HostGator’s current VPS page and the “VPS Operating System” help article, because catalogs and operating-system defaults change. Confirm the Windows Server version, licensing, price, and renewal terms directly on the provider’s live page.
