Firefox’s AI summary can leave out recipe ingredients or steps. Treat it as an overview, not cooking instructions: open the original recipe card and check every ingredient, quantity, temperature, time, and step in order before you start. Mozilla warns that AI summaries may be inaccurate and advises checking important details against the original page.

Why a Firefox recipe summary can be incomplete

A summary compresses a webpage, so details such as exact quantities or the order of steps can get lost. That is a general risk of summarization, not proof of why a particular summary omitted something.

Mozilla has also described a recipe-specific problem in engineering material published through the Planet Mozilla feed: a general-purpose prompt sometimes summarized recipes too aggressively, leaving out key ingredients or even the recipe itself. Mozilla said it addressed the problem with recipe-specific instructions that use structured data embedded in webpages, with lighter recipe guidance as a fallback when that data is missing or inaccurate. The accessible feed record does not establish when the original article was published or whether that approach is now used on every Firefox platform, so it should not be taken as a guarantee about your device.

Reader View is part of the feature’s eligibility path: Firefox summaries are available for pages it can display in Reader View. Reader View simplifies a page by removing clutter such as buttons, ads, background images, and videos. Mozilla’s documentation does not establish that Reader View itself routinely removes recipe ingredients.

How to find and verify the full recipe

  1. Return from the summary or Reader View to the original webpage. On desktop, if a Reader View icon appears in the address bar, select it to enter Reader View; use its exit control, the icon, or your browser’s Back button to return to the page.
  2. Find the recipe card or the page’s full recipe section. If the summary view does not show it, look on the original page rather than relying on the summary.
  3. Compare the ingredient list line by line. Confirm every ingredient name and quantity; do not fill in an omission or guess a measurement.
  4. Read the complete method from beginning to end. Check that the steps appear in the right order and include all stated temperatures, timings, and stages.
  5. If the summary conflicts with the recipe card, follow the original recipe page or ask its author for clarification.

Mozilla’s instruction is direct: “Summaries use AI and may not always be accurate. Always check important details against the original page.” Mozilla Support’s Firefox for Android guidance gives this warning; its Firefox for iOS guidance also documents the feature.

What to expect on Android and iPhone

Summary availability and conditions differ by platform, device, and page. The figures below come from Mozilla Support pages last updated on the dates shown; rollout and requirements can change, so consult the current help page for your device and Firefox version.

Platform Documented conditions Mozilla Support page
Firefox for Android Experimental feature with progressive rollout. The page says summaries can cover English-language pages readable in Reader View and under 5,000 words. It identifies Mistral Small 3.1 as the cloud-based model. Page last updated June 22, 2026. Android guidance
Firefox for iOS The page says eligible pages must support Reader View. iPhone 15 Pro or later running iOS 26 or later uses Apple Intelligence; other devices use Mozilla-hosted Mistral Small 3.1. Stated limits are 3,000 words for the Apple Intelligence case and 5,000 words on other devices, with up to five summaries daily. Page last updated April 23, 2026. iOS guidance

These platform limits describe eligibility and use, not accuracy. Mozilla has not published an omission rate in the cited help pages, so there is no supported percentage for how often Firefox summaries miss recipe details.

How to judge a summary before cooking

  • Completeness: Is every ingredient and every method step present?
  • Fidelity: Do the ingredient names, amounts, temperatures, and times match the source?
  • Sequence: Are the instructions in the same order as the recipe card?

If any answer is no or unclear, use the original recipe as the authority. The same checks apply whether you are viewing a summary on Android or iOS.
