If the week in the Windows 11 calendar flyout starts on the wrong day, change Windows’ regional-format preference for First day of week. Open Settings > Time & language > Language & region > Regional format > Change formats, then choose the day you want. Microsoft Community guidance identifies that setting as the control for the taskbar calendar; Microsoft’s official taskbar documentation explains how to open the flyout but does not document this specific setting.
Change the first day of the week in Windows 11
- Open Settings > Time & language > Language & region.
- Expand Regional format, then select Change formats.
- Find First day of week and choose the day you want the calendar week to begin.
This path comes from Microsoft Community guidance for the Windows 11 taskbar calendar. Microsoft Learn explains that regional and cultural preferences affect date and time formatting, but Microsoft’s official taskbar article does not explicitly connect this particular preference to the flyout. The available documentation therefore supports this as the recommended setting to check, not as a guaranteed fix for every Windows build.
Make sure you are changing the Windows calendar
The calendar opened from the taskbar clock is a Windows flyout, not an Outlook calendar. To open it, select the taskbar clock or notification bell, or press Windows key + N, as described in Microsoft’s taskbar guidance.
Outlook has its own first-day-of-week preferences. Changing those affects Outlook calendar views; it is not the same setting as the Windows taskbar calendar preference. Microsoft provides separate instructions for viewing the Outlook calendar and calendar settings in Outlook on the web.

Why the calendar may not match your expectation
Windows uses regional and cultural preferences when formatting dates and times. If the taskbar calendar begins on an unexpected day, the First day of week choice under Regional format is the relevant preference to check. Microsoft Community guidance associates this control with the taskbar flyout, while Microsoft’s documentation on date, time, and number formats explains the broader role of regional settings.
If you have changed that preference and the flyout still starts on the wrong day, the available documentation does not establish whether a particular Windows build has a defect or whether another factor is overriding the preference. The steps above should not be treated as a universal guarantee.
