First check whether the livestream ends for everyone or only pauses on your device. If all viewers lose it, investigate the broadcaster’s encoder, upload connection, stream settings, and YouTube’s stream-health messages. If it stops only for you, check your connection, device, app, playback quality, and—on some TV apps—the broadcast-delay setting.
Does the stream stop for everyone or just you?
This distinction is the quickest way to narrow the cause. Ask another listener, or check the stream from a second device and a different network. If several viewers see the same interruption, the problem is more likely on the creator or YouTube-ingest side. If other viewers can keep listening, focus on your own playback setup.
A radio livestream may be continuous audio, music, or a video stream with a static image; the same first diagnostic applies. A stream that ends for everyone is different from a player that pauses, buffers, or briefly disconnects for one listener.
If you run the livestream: check the broadcast and upload
1. Read YouTube’s stream-health messages
Open YouTube Live Control Room and inspect stream health and any messages while the broadcast is running. YouTube advises: “During the event, monitor the stream health and review messages.” The messages can point toward a sending or configuration issue rather than a listener’s device. See YouTube’s encoder settings and live-streaming guidance.

2. Check whether your upload can sustain the selected settings
Run an upload-speed test and compare the available, stable upload capacity with the bitrate you configured. A connection that cannot reliably sustain the outgoing bitrate can interrupt the feed, especially when other devices or applications are using the connection. Choose a resolution and frame rate your connection can support consistently, rather than simply selecting the highest available quality. Test before going live with audio and movement similar to the real program.
YouTube’s H.264 recommendations include 10 Mbps for 1080p30 and 17 Mbps for 1080p60. These are settings examples, not universal targets: the appropriate bitrate depends on resolution, frame rate, codec, and the reliability of your upload. YouTube recommends RTMP or RTMPS, H.264, constant bitrate, and a two-second keyframe interval; do not exceed four seconds. Follow the current YouTube encoder recommendations for your chosen video settings.

3. Investigate encoder warnings
Look for warnings about high or low bitrate, long GOP/keyframe spacing, or insufficient incoming video. YouTube’s Live Streaming API stream-health documentation describes these kinds of health and configuration signals. If the encoder is not sending enough video or keyframes arrive too infrequently, YouTube may be unable to maintain smooth streaming.

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteIf health looks good but reports continue, establish whether the reports come from multiple viewers on different devices and networks. That helps distinguish a problem with the outgoing broadcast from downstream playback trouble, but it does not by itself prove the cause of a particular interruption.

4. Test the connection before replacing equipment
Repeat a test stream and observe whether the upload or health warnings change. If Wi-Fi instability is suspected, trying a wired connection can be a useful diagnostic; an Ethernet cable is an optional test, not a guaranteed fix or a specific YouTube requirement. Avoid buying a new router or encoder based on the symptom alone. First identify whether the failure follows the upload, encoder settings, or a particular viewer.
If you are listening: troubleshoot playback on your device
Try another connection and playback quality
Switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data, if available, and try the stream again. Mobile data charges may apply. If the player offers manual quality selection, choose a lower setting and see whether playback becomes steadier. YouTube’s live-stream playback troubleshooting recommends these kinds of connection and quality checks.

- PLUG IN AND HEAR SOUND IN SECONDS - USB Type-A connector with a 3.5mm stereo headphone output and a separate 3.5mm mono microphone input. No drivers, no software, no external power - the adapter is USB bus-powered and is recognized as a standard USB audio device.
- WORKS ON WINDOWS, MAC AND LINUX - Driverless on Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP/Server 2003/Vista/7/8, Linux and Mac OSX, and compliant with the USB Audio Device Class 1.0 specification, so any system that supports class-compliant USB audio will see it. Select it as the sound output and input device after plugging it in.
- TWO JACKS, TWO JOBS - The green jack is stereo OUT for headphones or powered speakers; the pink jack is mono microphone IN for a 3.5mm mic. It does NOT support 4-pole headsets on a single combo plug, it does NOT power passive speakers, and it does NOT add surround sound - it is a stereo 2-channel adapter.
- FOR LAPTOPS AND DESKTOPS THAT NEED AN AUDIO PORT BACK - Adds a headphone and mic port to a laptop, desktop, or mini PC whose onboard jack has failed or was never there. Managed and work-issued computers can block new USB audio devices by policy - check with your IT department before ordering for a company machine.
- SABRENT SUPPORT AND WARRANTY - What is in the box: one USB audio sound adapter. Backed by a 1-year limited warranty, extended to 2 years when you register within 90 days on the manufacturer's website.
Check the app, browser, or device
Try another supported device. On mobile, YouTube’s guidance includes clearing the app cache. On a computer, update or restart the browser or device and reduce open tabs. If the issue is limited to one app or device, that comparison is more useful than assuming the broadcaster’s stream has ended.
For a TV, check distance, interference, and broadcast delay
Move the TV device closer to the router if practical, and reduce interference or competing network use. If the TV app provides a Broadcast Delay control, YouTube describes Default as the setting best suited to minimizing playback interruptions and Decrease as the lower-delay choice. The control and its wording may not appear on every device or app.

Why low latency can make a live stream easier to interrupt
Lower latency makes the playback closer to real time, but leaves less buffer between the live feed and what you hear. That smaller cushion can make interruptions more likely when the connection fluctuates. YouTube also notes that network congestion and other factors can affect live programming, even when a connection otherwise seems adequate. On desktop, YouTube’s latency guidance explains the trade-off and points to Buffer Health in Stats for nerds as a playback diagnostic.
If you are deciding between immediacy and resilience, prioritize stable playback over the smallest possible delay unless near-real-time listening matters more to you.
When to suspect a platform restriction or other cause
These checks can separate creator-side interruptions from listener-side buffering, but they cannot establish why a particular stream stopped. A creator may have ended it intentionally, or a restriction, licensing issue, platform incident, device problem, or internet-provider issue may be involved. Note the exact error text, the device and app, when the interruption occurs, and whether other viewers are affected before settling on a cause.
