Find where the audio disappears: check the music source, the encoder’s audio meter and output, then YouTube’s stream-health status. If the encoder’s local output is audible but the live stream is silent for viewers on different networks, investigate delivery and YouTube errors rather than changing microphones or cables at random. Indian music does not, by itself, point to a distinct audio fault; the cause depends on how your stream is produced.
First identify where the sound stops
Trace the signal from the music source to viewers: source or playlist → encoder capture → encoder output → YouTube playback. Check whether the stream is still live, whether its video looks normal, when silence began, and whether one viewer or several are affected. In a 24/7 setup, note whether the problem begins at a playlist change, repeat, or restart; the timing is a clue, not proof of a cause.
| What you observe | Where to investigate next |
|---|---|
| The music itself is silent | Check the file, player, playlist, application, or external source. |
| The music plays, but the encoder’s source meter does not move | Check whether the right source or device is selected, active, and unmuted. |
| The encoder meter moves, but a local recording is silent | Check the encoder’s output routing, fader, mute state, and audio configuration. |
| A local recording sounds right, but live playback does not | Check YouTube stream health, encoder errors, and outbound connectivity. |
| Only one viewer reports silence | Check that viewer’s playback device, browser or app, and connection. |
A meter moving at one point in the signal path confirms signal there; it does not prove that YouTube is receiving it.

Confirm that the music source is playing
Verify that the intended audio file, application, playlist, or external device is producing sound. For a long-running stream, inspect the point where the silence began: a repeat, playlist transition, or restart may help narrow the search. Do not assume a broken microphone or cable when the setup may use a file or application instead.

If you use OBS, inspect the right source
OBS captures desktop audio and a microphone by default, but the actual music may come from a media source, application, or selected audio device. In the OBS mixer, watch the meter for that specific source while music should be playing. Confirm that the source is present and active, the expected device is selected, and neither the source nor its fader is muted or at zero. OBS explains its source options in the Sources Guide and Audio Sources.
If the meter does not respond, check OBS audio device selections at Settings → Audio, along with the operating-system mixer and the application’s own volume. OBS says desktop audio and a microphone are captured by default and recommends checking meters and manually selecting devices when needed in its Quick Start Guide. An audio input or output capture source only captures its selected device while that source is active.

- Analog mixing and equalization for pure sound
- Direct mixing of PC/gaming sounds into the streaming output
- Ultra-low noise analog mixer for streaming, podcasting and recording
- Stereo USB audio interface to connect your computer or mobile device
If you selected the same device both as a scene source and globally in Settings → Audio, OBS warns that this can cause echo. Stereo channels are assigned separately, so if only one meter moves, the audio may be heard only in the corresponding left or right channel. Use the OBS Audio Mixer Guide when checking meters, monitoring, or channel balance.
Listen to the encoder output
Use OBS audio monitoring, if appropriate for your setup, to hear the signal at the encoder stage. Make a local recording and listen to it before changing several settings at once. The recording helps distinguish a capture problem from a problem that occurs later during live delivery.

Read YouTube’s stream-health warnings
Check the stream-health message in YouTube’s live-streaming tools and match the correction to the warning shown. YouTube’s Live Streaming API documentation lists noAudioStream when ingestion has no audio stream but exactly one is required. It also documents audio codec, bitrate, sample-rate, channel-count, and multiple-audio-stream issues; for its audio-codec issue, the listed supported codecs are AAC and MP3. Do not change settings speculatively when YouTube has identified a specific problem. See YouTube Live Streaming API health status messages.

Separate an encoder problem from a delivery or viewer problem
YouTube advises checking the stream’s look and sound in the encoder, reviewing encoder errors and CPU load, and inspecting a local archive for audio or video problems. If the encoder appears healthy but playback is not, investigate the outbound internet connection. YouTube also distinguishes reports from one viewer, many viewers on one network, and viewers on different networks; that distinction helps determine whether to focus on an individual playback setup or stream delivery. Follow YouTube’s live-stream troubleshooting guidance.

Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →- One viewer is affected: have them check their playback device, browser or app, and connection.
- Several viewers on one network are affected: compare playback from another network before changing the encoder.
- Viewers on different networks are affected: if your local recording sounds normal, review outbound connectivity, encoder errors, and YouTube’s stream-health status.
Check copyright and stream status if the presentation changed
If the stream stopped, switched to a placeholder, or shows a warning, review YouTube Studio for copyright or Community Guidelines notices. YouTube says live streams are scanned for third-party matches; identified content can lead to a placeholder image, interruption, or termination. Its guidance describes those outcomes, not copyright enforcement simply muting a stream that otherwise continues normally. A license may not prevent an interruption if the rights holder has not allowlisted the channel through Content ID. If you stream licensed third-party music, verify allowlisting with the rights holder. See YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.
