LinkedIn may be showing an old cached preview, or it may not be able to read the image details on your site. Start by checking the URL in LinkedIn’s Post Inspector; if the preview is still wrong, check the page’s Open Graph tags, image dimensions and whether LinkedIn can access the image file.
1. Check whether LinkedIn has a stale preview
LinkedIn can store an image and other preview information from an earlier share. Open Post Inspector, enter the page URL and inspect the preview LinkedIn retrieves. If it now shows the right image, try sharing the URL in a new post.
Refreshing a URL does not change posts that have already been published. LinkedIn says the refreshed preview information applies to new posts that include that URL; existing posts keep their preview. LinkedIn’s Post Inspector instructions
2. Check the page’s preview metadata
If Post Inspector still shows the wrong image, the website may be missing or using incorrect sharing metadata. LinkedIn says its share box relies on oEmbeds and/or Open Graph Protocol (OGP) information to display a title, description and image. Ask the site owner or developer to check the page’s metadata in its HTML, especially these tags:

LinkedIn’s examples use absolute image and page URLs. Confirm that og:image points to the intended image file, not an outdated image or a different page’s default graphic. LinkedIn’s website-sharing guidance lists the tags and formats it expects.
3. Verify the image dimensions and file size
For an image in the LinkedIn sharing module, LinkedIn’s guidance specifies a minimum size of 1200 × 627 pixels, recommends a 1.91:1 aspect ratio and sets a maximum file size of 5 MB. Images less than 401 pixels wide display as thumbnails. These are LinkedIn’s published specifications, not a guarantee that every compliant image will appear correctly. Check the actual file referenced by og:image, rather than only the image shown in your site’s editor. If the image is too small or too large as a file, replace or resize it, update the metadata and then inspect the URL again.
4. Make sure LinkedIn can retrieve the image
A correct tag and compliant image can still fail if LinkedIn cannot fetch the file. LinkedIn identifies blocked image retrieval and images stored in protected locations as possible causes. Ask the site administrator to verify that the image URL is publicly accessible and that the site does not block LinkedIn from retrieving it. 5. Allow time for LinkedIn’s preview to update
After you share a URL or change its tags, LinkedIn advises waiting 48 hours for changes to take effect. This is platform guidance, not a promise that every preview will update within that period. After waiting, run the URL through Post Inspector again and use the refreshed preview for a new post. LinkedIn’s URL troubleshooting guidance
6. If you are posting as a LinkedIn Page admin
A LinkedIn Page super admin or content admin can customize the preview image and title while composing a Page post. This is an in-composer override for an eligible Page post; it does not change the website’s metadata or establish that the same controls are available for personal-profile posts. LinkedIn recommends 1200 × 627 pixels at a 1.91:1 ratio for this customization flow. Quick troubleshooting sequence
- Paste the URL into LinkedIn Post Inspector and check the preview it retrieves.
- If the preview is wrong, ask the site owner or developer to verify
og:image,og:title,og:descriptionandog:url. - Confirm the image is at least 1200 × 627 pixels, no larger than 5 MB, and publicly retrievable.
- Check that LinkedIn is not blocked from fetching the image and that it is not in a protected location.
- Allow the 48-hour period LinkedIn advises after sharing or changing tags, then inspect the URL again.
- If you are an eligible Page admin and need a post-specific workaround, customize the image and title in the Page-post composer.
