If your FFmpeg command puts -stream_loop -1 before a single lesson file, FFmpeg is set to replay that file forever. That option loops its input; it does not rotate through a library of lessons. This is the likely explanation, not a confirmed diagnosis of your setup: without your command, input files, logs, or YouTube event details, other causes cannot be ruled out.
What -stream_loop -1 does
FFmpeg defines -stream_loop as the number of times an input is looped: 0 means no loop, and -1 means an infinite loop. It is an input option, so placement matters. In ffmpeg -stream_loop -1 -i lesson.mp4 ..., the loop setting applies to lesson.mp4. If that is the only lesson input, the same lesson repeats.
FFmpeg’s general option rules say options usually apply to the next specified file. Check the FFmpeg manual and the help for your installed build; documentation and builds can differ.
Check which file is being looped
- Inspect the exact command used to start the stream.
- Find each
-iand note the file or input that follows it. - Check whether
-stream_loop -1appears before the lesson input. If it does, that input is configured to repeat indefinitely.
If the command already selects several inputs or a playlist, inspect that selection workflow and its logs before concluding why the same lesson appears. Those details are not available from the symptom alone.

How to rotate lessons instead of repeating one
Choose the input workflow to match what you want the stream to play:
- Repeat one lesson continuously: an infinite loop on that lesson is appropriate.
- Rotate among lessons: use a workflow that selects multiple files or a playlist. Looping one file cannot rotate a lesson collection.
There is no safe universal replacement command without knowing your filenames, formats, current command, and whether audio and video tracks need synchronized selection. If you need a tailored correction, share the command with your YouTube stream key removed.

Why -re does not change the lesson
-re is a pacing option: FFmpeg documents it as reading input at its native frame rate, equivalent to -readrate 1. It does not choose a different file, create a playlist, or cancel -stream_loop -1. Content selection and playback pacing are separate decisions.
Check the YouTube stream separately
First verify what FFmpeg is sending; then check the YouTube broadcast and stream state if the live event still appears to repeat content. YouTube’s API documentation distinguishes a broadcast, the distinct watchable YouTube video, from a stream, the audiovisual transmission and its settings. For encoder and event issues, YouTube recommends choosing a quality your connection can reliably sustain, testing before going live with audio and movement similar to the intended stream, and monitoring stream health during the event. These checks can help distinguish input or encoder problems from ingest or event-health issues, but they do not alter FFmpeg’s loop setting.
