On Android, check Settings > Apps > Unused apps to see apps Android has optimized. If an app you still use is affected, open its App info page and turn off Pause app activity if unused. To silence alerts yourself, adjust that app’s notification settings instead. On iPhone, use Settings > Notifications to turn off an app’s alerts or mute them temporarily from a notification.
Why an unused app may stop sending notifications
Android can automatically optimize apps it considers unused. This can stop their notifications, revoke permissions, delete temporary files, and stop background activity. To review affected apps, open Settings > Apps > Unused apps. Google’s instructions describe the review area as Apps > Unused apps: Google Play Help: Manage unused apps on your Android device.
If you want an app to keep working normally, open its App info > Unused apps screen and switch off Pause app activity if unused. Menu names and locations can differ by Android device; the relevant controls may be on the app’s information page. See Android Help: Manage unused apps on your Android device.

Android
- Open Settings > Notifications > App notifications.
- Select the app whose alerts you want to change.
- Turn off notifications, or disable only the notification categories you do not want, if those controls are available.
You can also press and hold an unwanted notification to open its notification settings. Android’s menu labels and available controls vary by device, so the path may look different on your phone. Google’s instructions are at Control notifications on Android.

iPhone
- Open Settings > Notifications.
- Tap the app you want to manage.
- Turn off Allow Notifications to stop its alerts.
For a temporary mute, swipe left on one of the app’s notifications and tap Options. Choose to mute the app for an hour or a day, or turn off its notifications. Apple’s guidance is in Change notification settings on iPhone and its iOS 26 guide to viewing and responding to notifications.
Choose between changing alerts and archiving an app

Archiving is for an app you no longer need installed; it does more than silence alerts. For an app you still use, changing its notification settings or exempting it from unused-app optimization preserves the installed app. Learn more in Android Help: Archive unused apps on Android.
