If Discord shows “Sorry, you’ve been blocked,” the message alone does not tell you whether the cause is a network security rule, an outage, a local network setting, or an account restriction. Check the numeric error code and whether the problem affects one device or every way you connect. A Cloudflare 1020 error means a firewall rule denied that web request; it is not, by itself, proof that your Discord account was banned.
What “You’ve been blocked” means
The wording can appear on a Cloudflare page when a request to Discord’s website is denied. Cloudflare says, “This error indicates that access to the website is denied by a Cloudflare firewall rule.” The site owner controls that rule. For an Error 1020 page, Cloudflare advises visitors to send the site owner a screenshot; the owner can use the Ray ID or client IP to find the event and investigate the rule.
The headline is not enough to identify the cause. Discord community reports from September 29, 2023 described the blocked page and a desktop-focused incident in which some users said mobile access still worked. Those reports show one possible pattern, not a diagnosis for every blocked page or a guarantee that switching to mobile will work.
Use the error code, not just the headline
If the page includes a Cloudflare code, it narrows down what kind of decision was made. Cloudflare’s error-code documentation distinguishes among several categories:

- 1020: a firewall rule denied access.
- 1005: an ASN ban.
- 1006, 1007, 1008, or 1106: an IP-related ban.
- 1009: a country or region restriction.
- 1010: a browser-signature ban.
- 1015: rate limiting.
These codes describe different access policies; do not assume that changing DNS, reinstalling the app, or appealing an account action will address them all.
How to diagnose the problem
- Record the page details. Take a screenshot showing the full message, URL, numeric error code, and Ray ID, if present. Note the time and time zone, the device and browser or app, and which network you were using. These details help distinguish a web request block from an account message and are useful if you contact Discord.
- Check Discord’s status page. If multiple Discord features or clients are failing, check the official status page before changing settings. A service incident can resemble a local connection problem.
- Compare an official client and another network. Try the Discord mobile app or another official client, then test a different connection if one is available. If only one browser, device, or network fails, that narrows the scope; it does not prove the underlying cause or guarantee a workaround.
- Check local and network controls. Discord recommends restarting your modem or router and computer, checking for an ISP outage, and allowing Discord through firewall or antivirus controls. If you are on a workplace or school network, ask its administrator whether Discord is restricted.
- Test VPN behavior carefully. A VPN can help determine whether the current IP address or route is involved, but it may also trigger security rules and is not a guaranteed fix. Discord voice requires a VPN that supports UDP; without that, voice may not work even if other parts of Discord load.
- Contact Discord with the evidence. If the issue persists, submit a request through Discord Support. The support form requires signing in to a Discord support account. Include your screenshot, Ray ID and error code, account email, device and network details, and anything that changed just before the block appeared.
Tell a web block apart from an account restriction
A Cloudflare page concerns a request to access the website. An account enforcement or age-restriction notice is shown inside Discord’s interface and has its own process. Reinstalling Discord will not remove a firewall rule, and a Cloudflare page alone does not establish that Discord suspended your account.

If Discord shows an age-restriction violation
Discord’s age-restriction process applies to eligible users who receive an active age-restriction violation. Sign in to the affected account, open the violation, choose the age-confirmation option, and complete the method offered for your region or device. Discord says access should be fully restored when the user is confirmed to meet the applicable regional minimum age. The available verification method may vary.
If the account is suspended over a fraudulent charge
Discord’s Fraudulent Charge Suspension FAQ says this suspension is permanent and not eligible for appeal. This is a distinct account-level case; do not treat it as an ordinary network block or assume that every suspension can be reversed.

Will changing DNS, using a VPN, or reinstalling Discord fix it?

No reliable success-rate figure is available for these workarounds, and the blocked-page message has no established prevalence breakdown by cause. Treat these actions as checks tied to a symptom, not guaranteed cures.

Who can actually remove the block?
- Cloudflare firewall decision: the website owner must investigate the rule. For a 1020 page, provide the complete screenshot and Ray ID so the event can be located.
- Work or school network restriction: the network administrator controls the filtering policy.
- Local firewall or antivirus setting: you or the device administrator can check whether Discord is being blocked.
- Age-restriction violation: follow Discord’s in-product age-confirmation process if eligible.
- Fraudulent-charge suspension: Discord documents this category as permanent and non-appealable.
