A 24/7 stream alone does not show why your YouTube channel membership revenue changed. To find the cause, compare membership transactions, member gains and losses, membership levels, and membership-specific revenue over aligned billing periods. A live-stream report, concurrent-viewer count, or overall RPM cannot identify a change in membership earnings by itself.
First, identify which “membership revenue” figure changed
YouTube Studio and AdSense for YouTube show different measures. Before comparing numbers, note the report, metric label, currency, date range, and whether the amount is estimated or finalized.
- Memberships tab: Shows earnings for the last billing period, along with membership information.
- Analytics membership revenue: Lets you inspect membership revenue for a selected date range.
- Transactions: Counts new sign-ups and recurring membership payments; this helps show whether revenue movement coincided with changes in paid activity.
- AdSense for YouTube: Shows finalized earnings, which may differ from estimated Analytics revenue.
These measures do not necessarily cover the same dates or represent the same stage in revenue reporting. Compare like with like before attributing a change to the stream.

How to diagnose a membership revenue change
- Write down the exact comparison. Record the two amounts, their report names, metric labels, currencies, date ranges, and whether each is estimated or finalized.
- Compare membership activity. In the Memberships tab and relevant Audience or Revenue reports, examine total and active members, members gained, cancellations, members lost, membership levels, sign-ups, recurrences, and gifted memberships. Total members can include canceled members who retain access for the rest of their paid period; active members exclude canceled members.
- Align the periods. Membership billing periods can be 28, 30, or 31 days depending on the month. A custom Analytics date range may not match the Memberships-tab billing period, so compare equivalent periods rather than assuming two calendar-month views are directly comparable. YouTube’s channel memberships guidance explains the reports and billing-period distinction.
- Open the membership-specific revenue breakdown. In YouTube Studio, go to Analytics → Revenue → How you make money → Memberships, then select the custom date range you want to inspect. Check the Transactions Revenue card for new sign-ups and recurrences.
- Check the member mix. If overall membership counts appear steady, compare the levels members are in and transaction activity. A count alone does not tell you whether the revenue mix or number of paid transactions changed.
- Reconcile estimates with finalized earnings. Analytics revenue is estimated; finalized earnings appear in AdSense for YouTube and may differ, for example because of applicable tax withholding. Do not treat an estimate and a finalized figure as interchangeable. YouTube’s revenue-report guidance describes estimated revenue reporting.
- Check any network agreement. YouTube says creators receive 70% of membership revenue after applicable taxes and fees are deducted, and currently covers transaction costs such as card fees. If your channel is with an MCN, review its terms for any additional share. YouTube’s membership guidance covers the revenue share.
Why RPM and live-stream metrics can mislead
RPM is an aggregate metric: it combines revenue sources including ads, memberships, YouTube Premium, Super Chat, and Super Stickers. A change in RPM therefore does not establish that membership revenue changed, or explain why it changed. Use the individual membership revenue report for the membership question. YouTube’s RPM explanation lists the revenue sources included.
Live-stream metrics are a separate view. In the live-metrics reporting workflow described by YouTube, revenue reports are unavailable when filtering for Live. YouTube also says Analytics data is processed and based on video ID. Concurrent viewers, stream duration, or a Live-only report are not evidence of a membership billing change. For the revenue question, use the membership breakdown in Analytics. YouTube’s live-stream analytics guidance explains the live-metrics reports.

A live stream can have other monetization routes—ads, memberships, Super Chat, and Super Stickers—but ad serving is not guaranteed for every slot. Those sources may affect a broader revenue total or RPM; they are not the same as membership-specific revenue. YouTube’s live-stream monetization guidance describes these options.
What the numbers can—and cannot—tell you

These checks narrow down what changed, but the reports cannot identify the cause for an individual channel without its actual values, compared dates, transaction activity, tier composition, and estimate or final status.
