The weekly reset follows a schedule assigned to your account, not the moment you start using Claude or begin a subscription. To see your own remaining usage and next reset, open Settings > Usage.
Why the session limit can reset before the weekly limit
The session and weekly limits are distinct budgets. Anthropic says the session-based limit resets every five hours on its paid plans. The weekly limit has its own reset day and time, assigned to the account. When the five-hour window turns over, that session allowance refills; it does not refill the weekly allowance or change its schedule.
This is why you may regain some capacity after a session reset but still be unable to use a model or feature that has reached its weekly limit. Anthropic says the weekly reset remains on its usual day and time even when a limit reset refills an allowance. Your account’s Settings > Usage page shows the relevant progress and timing.
When does my weekly Claude limit reset?
There is no universal reset weekday or clock time to apply to every account. Anthropic’s Pro guidance says the weekly reset day and time are fixed for the account and do not depend on when you first use Claude or when your subscription starts. It also says the full weekly allowance is provided each cycle. Check Settings > Usage for the next reset shown for your account; the timing is account-specific and may vary as Anthropic updates its policies. See Anthropic’s Pro plan guidance.

- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Where to check both reset clocks
- Open Claude and go to Settings > Usage.
- Check the five-hour session meter and its time remaining.
- Check the weekly usage progress and the next reset timing shown for the relevant model or allowance.
- If one meter is depleted after the other refills, use the timing beside the depleted meter rather than assuming both budgets reset together.
Anthropic’s usage dashboard guidance describes these meters as showing current session usage and time remaining, as well as weekly progress and reset timing for Opus and other models. The displayed account meter is more useful for your next reset than old screenshots, generic estimates, or another user’s schedule. See Anthropic’s usage dashboard guidance.
What counts toward Claude usage?
Usage is shared across Claude.ai, Claude Code, and Claude Desktop for the same account. Switching apps or starting another chat does not give you a fresh account allowance. Anthropic distinguishes usage limits, which apply across conversations, from length limits, which concern how much content a single conversation can hold. Starting a new chat may help when the issue is conversation length, but it does not reset shared usage.

There is no dependable universal number of messages per session or week. Consumption can vary with several factors:
- Conversation size and complexity: long messages and extended conversations can use more of the available allocation.
- Attachments: large or numerous attachments affect usage.
- Model and effort: the selected model and effort level influence consumption.
- Tools and features: Research, web search, and artifact creation or use can affect the allocation. Research can consume limits faster because it retrieves multiple sources and produces a comprehensive response.
Anthropic notes that reusing Project content and similar prompts can benefit from caching. The exact effect on an individual account’s remaining allowance is best judged from the Usage page, not a fixed message-count rule. See Anthropic’s explanation of usage and length limits and its usage best practices.

What a limit reset or paid usage credits change
If Claude offers a limit reset, check in Settings > Usage which allowance it will refill, whether you are eligible, and any expiry shown. Anthropic says a reset may refill either the five-hour session allowance or the weekly allowance; it does not move the regular weekly reset time. The Reset for free action and its availability are shown in Settings > Usage on the web or in Claude Desktop. See Anthropic’s limit-reset guidance.
Paid usage credits are a separate option for continuing after included usage is reached. Anthropic says they are charged separately from the subscription, and the normal five-hour session limit still resets on its usual cycle. Credits do not explain or change the account-assigned weekly reset schedule. See Anthropic’s guidance on limit resets.

Claude subscription limits are not API rate limits
Claude subscription usage limits are not the same as API organization rate limits. Anthropic’s API documentation describes request- and token-per-minute limits and organization usage tiers, a separate system from a consumer account’s session and weekly allowances. If your question concerns a Claude subscription, use the signed-in Usage page rather than API rate-limit figures. See Anthropic’s API rate-limit documentation.
