If Mortal Kombat 11 Story Mode is red or unavailable, the game or its Story files may still be installing. If installation has finished, check that the Story content is installed for your platform, then close and relaunch the game and complete any prompted update. The fix depends on whether you play on Xbox, PC, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, or Steam.
Why is MK11 Story Mode unavailable?
WB Games Support says red game modes accompanied by an “Estimated Time Until Available” message mean parts of Mortal Kombat 11 are still installing. Some modes become available as installation progresses. Wait until the installation finishes before troubleshooting missing content. WB Games Support explains the red-mode message.

Do you need Aftermath to play the base Story Mode?
No. WB documents the base-game Story and Story 4K files separately from Aftermath. Aftermath is an expansion that adds a separate Story Expansion, three playable characters, and three character skin packs; the support guidance does not identify buying it as a fix for missing base-game Story files. See WB’s Aftermath FAQ.
When should you check online services or contact support?
Check WB maintenance notices and your platform’s service-status page if the problem also affects online features or you see a connection error. WB’s guidance does not say that base Story Mode universally requires an online connection, so an online outage is a secondary possibility rather than the first explanation. See WB’s maintenance-message guidance.
