An NFL game can be unavailable because it is reserved for a local or national broadcaster, excluded from your subscription, limited to another device, or because the service cannot verify your account or location. “Blackout” is often used loosely: the current restrictions described by the NFL and YouTube are chiefly about broadcast rights, market eligibility, package exclusions, and playback location—not necessarily a traditional sellout blackout.
Start by identifying the game’s category and checking the current listing for your location. A different streaming box will not add rights that your plan does not include.
First, identify which kind of game you’re trying to watch
The service, plan, device, and recognized viewing location all matter. Use the table to narrow down the likely reason before changing subscriptions.

Why Sunday Ticket may not show the game
It is a local game
Standalone YouTube NFL Sunday Ticket covers qualifying regular-season Sunday afternoon games on CBS and Fox that are not carried locally. Local games are excluded from that standalone package. YouTube says local games can be watched through YouTube TV when you have that plan and the game is shown on a covered channel. YouTube also lists Primetime Channel options for local CBS, Fox, and NBC games. Check the specific game and your market before buying another service. [YouTube Help] [YouTube TV Help]

It is a national, postseason, preseason, or digital-exclusive game
Standalone Sunday Ticket excludes preseason, postseason, locally televised, national, digital-exclusive, and select regular-season games. A national broadcast such as Sunday Night Football or Monday Night Football is not included in standalone Sunday Ticket. The channel or service carrying another game depends on its current rights and listing; do not assume one platform carries every matchup. [YouTube Help]
YouTube’s 2026 season guide identifies YouTube TV coverage on CBS, FOX, NBC, ESPN, and NFL Network, and lists Peacock for Sunday Night Football and local NBC games. These are guide details, not a guarantee for every game or market; check the NFL’s current schedule and the service’s game listing. [YouTube TV Help]

It is a qualifying out-of-market game, but the account or location is not recognized
YouTube says your playback area determines which Sunday Ticket games are available. Make sure you are signed into the Google account used to buy the service, open the official NFL channel page, and verify your location if prompted. These checks can resolve account or location-detection problems; they cannot make a locally televised, nationally carried, postseason, or otherwise excluded game eligible. YouTube notes that game availability listings can change. [YouTube Help]

NFL+ is not an all-games-live subscription on every screen. NFL Support describes its live regular-season local and primetime games as available on phones or tablets. Live out-of-market Sunday afternoon games require Sunday Ticket, not NFL+. Connecting or casting a phone to a television is not a guaranteed workaround for the device restriction. [NFL Support]

NFL+ is available in the United States but not in U.S. territories, according to NFL Support. For viewers outside the United States, NFL Support directs fans to NFL Game Pass International through DAZN. Eligibility and packages vary by country, so confirm the current local service listing. How to check where a specific game is available
- Find the exact matchup and kickoff time. Check the current NFL schedule rather than relying on a general weekly platform list; listings may change. [YouTube TV Help]
- Check the listing for your location. NFL’s Ways to Watch schedule personalizes games and services by location. Confirm which local or national channel or service is listed for that matchup. [NFL Ways to Watch]
- Match the game category to your plan. Separate local or national broadcasts, out-of-market Sunday afternoon games, postseason, preseason, and digital-exclusive games. Sunday Ticket’s standalone package is not a full-season, every-game pass. [YouTube Help]
- Check device limits. If watching through NFL+, use a phone or tablet for its live local and primetime game access. Consult the provider’s current device requirements for other services.
- For YouTube Sunday Ticket, check account and playback area. Sign in with the Google account that purchased the service and verify location if prompted. Then recheck the current game listing. [YouTube Help]
What won’t fix a rights or market restriction
A streaming device or box can run a service’s app, but it cannot grant broadcast rights or change which market the service recognizes. An antenna might receive a local station in some locations, but whether it carries this game and whether reception is adequate depend on the station and address. Check local carriage and reception conditions before relying on over-the-air viewing.
