Most AI video tools cannot use a Blender project file (.blend) as a video-generation input. A .blend file is a Blender scene project; a tool may instead expect a rendered video, a still image, or—less commonly—a 3D asset in a format it explicitly supports. Check the exact tool, model, and upload feature, then export the kind of file that field accepts.
Why your Blender file is being rejected
“Import” can mean different things: uploading a reference image, providing a clip for editing or video-to-video generation, or importing a 3D scene. Those are not interchangeable workflows. Blender can export 3D data for use in other software, but that does not mean a particular AI video service can read a Blender project—or any 3D file.

For example, Runway’s supported generative inputs are image, video, and audio in listed formats; its supported-file documentation does not list .blend as an input. Its documentation also notes that accepted inputs depend on the model or app. Check your own platform’s documentation for the precise model and upload field rather than assuming that all AI video tools accept the same files.
Choose the right export for the upload field
If the tool expects a video
Render the scene in Blender, then upload the resulting video—not the project file. Use a container and codec the specific tool lists. Runway, for example, lists MP4 with H.264 among its supported combinations and recommends trying H.264 in an MP4 container when a file-type or codec error occurs. An MP4 extension alone does not guarantee compatibility: the container and the video codec inside it both matter.
#1 Best Overall
- Core Functionality: This tamper tool is designed to fit directly into the blender container, allowing you to safely push down ingredients for efficient blending without contacting the blades
- Material Safety: Made from high level of quality plastic that is free from any peculiar odors, this tamper tool is the safe and healthy accessory for your kitchen blending needs
- Wide Compatibility: Suitable for various machines including wall breaking machines, soybean milk machines, smoothie makers, and cooking machines, making this blender replacement part versatile
- Easy Maintenance: This blender tamper tool is dishwasher safe, allowing for convenient daily cleaning to maintain hygiene and optimal performance
- Nutritional Optimization: By gently guiding ingredients towards the blades without direct contact, this tamper tool helps maximize the nutritional value retained in your blended foods
If the tool expects an image reference
Render a still frame or image from Blender and save it in a supported image format. Check the model’s documented image dimensions and file-size limits before uploading. Runway Gen-4.5 documents both text-to-video and image-to-video workflows, so a rendered image is relevant to its image-to-video route; it is not a substitute for a video when the selected feature asks for one.
If the destination explicitly accepts 3D assets
Export to one of the 3D formats named by that destination. Blender’s official format overview includes glTF 2.0 (.glb/.gltf), USD, OBJ, PLY, STL, and FBX. Use those formats only when the target feature says it imports 3D assets. A format being available in Blender does not establish that an AI video service supports it, and scene features may not transfer identically between applications.
Troubleshoot the upload in order
- Identify the exact destination. Note the AI tool, model, and feature or upload field. An image-to-video generator, video editor, and 3D scene importer can require different inputs.
- Read that field’s accepted-input list. Confirm whether it accepts a Blender project, a 3D interchange format, a still image, or rendered video. Do not infer support from the phrase “AI video.”
- Export the matching kind of file from Blender. Render a clip for a video field, render a still for an image-reference field, or export a 3D asset only for a destination that explicitly names supported 3D formats.
- Match the documented file encoding. For video, verify both the container and codec. If the platform lists H.264 in MP4 as a supported fallback, try that combination when another encoding fails.
- Check feature-specific limits. If the format is listed but the upload still fails, check the selected model’s limits for file size, image dimensions, clip duration, frame rate, or codec. Requirements can differ by model or feature; do not apply one feature’s limits to another.
What each format can—and cannot—tell the tool
| File or route | What it is | When to use it |
|---|---|---|
.blend |
A Blender project containing a scene and its work. | Use it in Blender; upload it elsewhere only if that exact destination explicitly supports Blender projects. |
| 3D interchange format | A 3D asset export, such as glTF 2.0, USD, OBJ, PLY, STL, or FBX, all listed by Blender’s format overview. | Use only when the destination names that format. Exporting does not guarantee every scene feature will carry over. |
| Rendered still image | A two-dimensional image produced from the Blender scene. | Use when the selected feature accepts an image reference; follow its image-format and dimension requirements. |
| Rendered video | A clip produced from the Blender scene. | Use when the selected feature accepts video; match its documented container, codec, and clip limits. |
These routes preserve different kinds of information. A rendered image or video presents the scene as pixels; it is not an editable 3D scene. A 3D export is intended to carry scene or asset data, but the precise information that survives depends on the format, export settings, and destination. There is no established universal best 3D format for every Blender scene and AI video product.
