A football stream may be unavailable where you are because live broadcast rights are licensed separately by country, and the service uses your location to enforce those limits. To check whether a match is legally available, look up the exact competition and fixture on the competition’s official broadcast or “where to watch” page, then confirm the local provider’s schedule and whether it offers live coverage—not just highlights.
Why a stream can be blocked in your country
Football rights are not one worldwide package. Competitions license coverage by territory, so a provider authorized to show a match in one country may not have permission to stream it elsewhere. The Premier League’s announcement for the 2025/26–2027/28 seasons, for example, names different rights holders by country and region. The Premier League’s 2025–2028 rights announcement lists Sky Sports and TNT Sports in the United Kingdom, Stan Sport in Australia, StarHub in Singapore, and NBC Sports in the United States.
Services can use location signals to apply those territorial limits. UEFA’s terms say UEFA.tv content is subject to territorial restrictions imposed by UEFA or a relevant content partner. The terms also prohibit using tools to conceal your location to access content unavailable in your territory. Read UEFA.tv’s General Terms of Use, including sections 2–4.

How to check whether the match is available locally
- Identify the competition, fixture, and season. Rights are specific to competitions and rights cycles. Make sure you are checking the competition that governs the match, not a general football or league search.
- Open the competition’s official broadcaster or “where to watch” page. Choose the country where you are physically located. The Premier League’s rights announcement and UEFA’s Champions League broadcaster page are examples of official territory listings.
- Check the provider’s schedule for that exact match. A country’s listed rights holder may not show every fixture. Match selections and schedules can change, so verify the fixture and kick-off time with the provider, then check again close to kick-off.
- Read the coverage label. Confirm whether the listing means live video, highlights, audio, or another type of coverage. UEFA marks some Champions League broadcaster entries as highlights-only; a broadcaster appearing on the list does not necessarily mean it streams every match live.
- If the match is listed but playback fails, check access requirements. Use the provider’s official guidance for account status, supported devices, app updates, and connectivity. A territorial listing establishes where rights may exist, not that every device or connection will work.
Check the competition and country, not just the broadcaster
The right place to start depends on the competition. The Premier League’s FAQ says its 2025/26 UK live television coverage is on Sky Sports and TNT Sports, with BBC Sport as its free-to-air highlights partner. It directs viewers outside the UK to its Broadcast Schedules because overseas licences are regional. See the Premier League Broadcast FAQ.
Other competitions have their own arrangements. For the UEFA Champions League, use UEFA’s territory-specific broadcaster list and note that an asterisk indicates highlights rights only. The page was last updated on 10 September 2026, so consult it and the provider’s schedule for current details.

The English Football League also distinguishes domestic and international streaming. Its official guidance says Sky Sports became the home of domestic EFL streaming from 2024/25, while club streaming services continue internationally subject to restrictions and broadcast selections. Those arrangements apply to the EFL; they should not be assumed to apply to other leagues. Check the EFL’s Domestic & International Streaming guidance.

Sometimes a match is unavailable on live television because of a local scheduling rule rather than because you are in the wrong territory. The Premier League says UK matches are not traditionally televised on Saturdays between 14:45 and 17:15, primarily to protect attendance and atmosphere across football. This is a specific UK example, not a universal rule. Check the competition’s schedule and local coverage information before concluding that a stream has been blocked by your location.

If the listing and the stream do not match
- Recheck that you selected the correct country and competition on the official rights page.
- Confirm that the provider lists the exact fixture for live coverage, rather than only highlights or another format.
- Check for a schedule change and verify the kick-off time with the provider.
- Review the provider’s official account, device, app-update, and internet guidance if the fixture is listed but playback still fails.
- Do not use location-masking tools to reach a stream unavailable in your territory; UEFA’s terms prohibit this for UEFA.tv content.
